Toms River: During the 07:00 hour this morning, a Peapod grocery delivery truck attempted to exit the GSP at Exit 81 Southbound. This appears to be a single-vehicle rollover crash, and the driver was able to exit the truck without any major injury. TRFD and NJSP responded to assist with the accident investigation and to ensure safety of the public. As for the groceries- likely a lot of damaged food that customers won’t be receiving today.

Tim Reid so I’ll learn you about something. The exit speed limits, on yellow signs are only recommendations. The actual speed limit is whatever the parkway is in that area, so you can go 65mph legally. Is it safe for commercial vehicles, absolutely not, but just letting you know it’s not a “speed limit”

Karl Bogus The Toms River exits 81 & 82 both have short or tight ramps close to each other. 82 has the issue of vehicles entering the highway- hopefully accelerating to merging speeds when possible- at the same time as people slowing down to exit the highway. You have the limited third lane with vehicles weaving and merging at varying speeds.
Exit 81 is just a sharp turn. It has a long deceleration lane, but people underestimate the sharpness of the turn. They also ignore the yellow cautionary speeds of 10 – 20 MPH to warn people the ramp turns right sharply.
Both intersections need to be improved, possibly overhauled.
While we’re not experts in MUTCD- compliance, perhaps a yellow sign showing the sharp right turn with the suggested speed on this cluster of signs?
