At 6pm on March 10th, Ptl. Kyle Cranmer stopped Tom Ruiz 2nd, 44, of West Creek near the intersection of Route 72 and Route 539 for reckless driving.

During the stop, Ptl. Cranmer developed evidence that led to the search of the vehicle and the recovery of a loaded Springfield XD 9mm handgun which was located in the center console of the vehicle. Ptl. Cranmer additionally recovered a quantity of marijuana and THC oil.

Ruiz was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of hollow-point ammunition, certain persons not to have weapons, tampering with evidence, possession of CDS, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued traffic summonses for reckless driving and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle. Ruiz was lodged in the Ocean County Jail.
