The Lakehurst Police Department arrested Pedro Mazariegos-Baires, 22, Toms River, NJ, after police investigated an incident involving a knife.
 
On October 27, 2021, at approximately 1:16 PM, Lakehurst Officers were called to the area of 200 Center Street for a report of an intoxicated male wielding a knife and chasing an individual down the street in a residential neighborhood. First on scene were Chief Matthew Kline, PO Michael Cecchini, and PO Tyler Sypniewski who were immediately able to locate, de-escalate, and apprehend Pedro Mazariegos-Baires without incident. The victim in this incident was able to flee to safety during the encounter prior to police arrival. During the investigation, Mazariegos- Baires was found to be in possession of a large butcher knife which was concealed in his waistband. Mazariegos- Baires was subsequently transported to police headquarters where he was processed and transported to the Ocean County Jail.  

Mazariegos- Baires also had an active criminal warrant from the Ocean County Superior Court for a prior criminal sexual contact charge. Mazariegos- Baires was charged with the following:
 
-Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
-Unlawful possession of a weapon
-Possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose
-Resisting arrest
-Disorderly conduct
 
All criminal charges are merely accusations, and all subjects are innocent until proven guilty.
