TOMS RIVER: An Ocean County Sheriff Unit rolled up on a Silver Kia SUV at NJ 37 @ Hooper. The vehicle was stopped at the intersection with the driver slumped over the steering wheel. OCSD made an attempt to contact the slumped over driver, but he suddenly awoke. Driver then took off on the officer westbound on NJ 37. The silver Kia SUV fled through the red signal at NJ 166, and the sheriff unit followed from a safe distance.

The suspect vehicle (Kia SUV) got onto the Garden State Parkway northbound at the Interchange 82 ramp, and the OCSD unit began to pursue. Once on the GSP, the NJ State Police were notified and the sheriff officer initiated a traffic stop with lights & sirens. At first the driver didn’t know if he wanted to stop, and left the Parkway at the Exit 83 ramp. Finally the Kia stopped on the ramp and the sheriff officer had one suspect on the ground at gunpoint. At this time one male prisoner is in custody (10-41), and being transported to Ocean County Jail.
