From Popcorn Park Zoo: This sweet and gentle young cat just can’t imagine what she did to deserve to be used for target practice by some heartless individual. She did nothing to deserve it, no animal ever does anything that warrants such abusive and cruel treatment from people however, cruelty is inflicted upon them, day in and day out. Luckily, this little cat survived, but we shudder to think of how many others that don’t.

She was found as a stray in the city of Newark and arrived with a severe abdominal injury. Immediate medical evaluation and x-rays revealed that under the infected wound on the left side of her abdomen lay a foreign object deeply embedded under the skin and through the muscle. She was quickly prepped for surgery and it didn’t take long to discover that the object was a pellet. This sweet, innocent, defenseless young cat was shot, deliberately, with a pellet gun.

Pumpkin, as she was named, got through the surgery like a little champ and while she was a little on the shy side at first, she quickly discovered that she was in good hands and that no harm would ever come to her again. Pumpkin spent some time at AHS Newark recovering and during that time, her case was investigated by the authorities. Unfortunately, no perpetrator has been found, as is the case so often in instances like this.

Pumkin has been transferred to AHS/Popcorn Park where she has put the whole incident behind her. She is completely recovered from surgery and she’s such a little darling. She’s only about a year old and is just a bit shy when she meets someone new but within seconds of knowing you, she begins purring up a storm, hoping that you’ll give her lots of love and attention.
