TOMS RIVER – School officials had to scramble to secure transportation for students on their way to the nation’s capital when their tour bus never arrived Monday morning.

Toms River Regional High School students were ready to leave for their 2-day trip to Washington, D.C. But the Trolley Tours bus never showed.

The school district had paid Trolley Tours in Forked River $3,100 back in February for the bus. But the company’s phone message now says they are closed due to bankruptcy.

It appears the company filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection back in September, which was converted to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy in February. The company’s assets were sold to pay off its debts.

It’s unclear if the school district paid for the bus before the Chapter 7 bankruptcy was finalized Feb. 21. The Washington, D.C. trip was approved by the Board of Education Feb. 26.

The students made their trip, though, when administrators reached out to Central Regional School District, which provided a school bus and driver.
