Toms River: Construction and/or Demolition has begun on the former Sabrett Hot Dog Wholesale building on NJ 37 @ Coolidge. Part of the western end of the building was torn down last week, and based off the machinery on premises- it appears demolition is next. The inside is still filled with old restaurant equipment, which appears to be destined for the recycling dumpsters on site. This building has been an eyesore on the highway for probably 15-20 years as it has sat and deteriorated. Let’s hope it is finally coming down, and something new and attractive will take its’ place.

Given the desirable corner location and excellent highway visibility, I am surprised it sat vacant for this long. What will become of this property? Initial thoughts were a convenience store or fast food, but we seem to be fairly saturated with those. Wawa, Quick Chek, and 7-11 all have stores within a mile. All the traditional fast food places already have established stores on the NJ 37 corridor. That leaves us with a new surprise store, or maybe a bank?

Either way, OCSN has filed an OPRA to Toms River Township to view any and all demolition & construction permits for the property.
