The daughter of the father of six who accidentally shot himself while disassembling a firearm has started a GoFundMe to help with funeral and other expenses.
Samantha Hammer established that GoFundMe for James Hammer, 46, who died March 9. He was taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center in Stafford before being flown to Atlanticare Regional Trauma Center in Atlantic City, where he died.
“My father was a hard-working man. Loved by many. He is a father to six children, a husband to a wonderful wife and a grandfather to a new beautiful little girl,”

I’m a former police officer of Barnegat Township my condolences to your family and friends! God bless you all!????????????
I don’t think at this point people are concerned that you are a former police officer.. I think your name would have been just fine.
Alan Munger I apologize!?????? condolences!
Harold Powell No need to apologize buddy. But you were a former police officer you know that you never dissemble a firearm without checking the chamber first..i feel bad for all but if you have six kids Firearms you should have a life insurance policy to bury yourself at 46 years old.
Alan Munger agree!
Alan Munger so you are telling Harold Powell he shouldn’t mention that he was once a police officer but you come on to this page to talk trash about a person who passed away tragically ? Maybe just your name and condolences to the family would have been enough without putting your two centsIn. No matter how it happened and whether or not he had life insurance isn’t your business. If you don’t want to contribute then don’t but keep your insults to yourself.
Deepest condolences. ??
They should run it by the public relations rep at Oyster Creek where he formerly worked. The employees there have a good record of donating to causes such as United Way, relief for natural disasters and other fmr employees who have passed away.
Doesnt he get a military funeral?? Just sayin

Most people that don’t have money today do simple cremation sell his weapons that should cover it.
Skye Marie Williams he probably kept his life insurance that they give you while you’re active. My husband is active and we were just talking about this.

Things take time to kick in.
Life insurance doesn’t just cut a check, esp in a case like this.
Younger kids can get survivor benefits…again, it’s a lot of paperwork and takes time.
It is NOT our business.
Sharon Lynn Huber no its not. But it becomes everyones when it gets posted.
Alan Munger It is not easy to just sell someone else’s weapons in New Jersey
…but then they won’t make a $$$$ profit from their loved ones death…?
Linda Hammer Linda Pietrangelo
He can have a free burial military one . Contact American legion in barnegat.
The funeral home should inform the family of everything he is entitled to
Please don’t. The family doesn’t need to deal with additional layers of judgment.
If he is a veteran the VA will pay I believe up to 500.00 dollars! Just need his DD214 forms!
Harold Powell I believe the family can go to the Vet Work and they can help
A fellow classmate RHS c/o 91, my condolences to the family.

Really dude
Martin, please don’t. The family doesn’t need to deal with additional layers of judgment.
GoFundMe keeps 7.9% of every donation. They’re a for profit company, not a charity organization. Good luck with your death money.
“Death money” …? Really?
Sigh.
