Brick Marijuana Ban

By Gary Beeg Jr.

The Brick Township Council has set Tuesday, February 26 as the date for a vote on the banning of recreational marijuana sales and cultivation.

The old Ocean First Bank is the site for a proposed marijuana dispensary on Adamston Road, which is a heavy residential area.

There is also a school and a church nearby.

“I wouldn’t be in favor of having any stores in town selling recreational marijuana,” Mayor John Ducey said in November during an interview where he called the 2 percent sales tax that would be remitted to local municipalities “a joke.”

Ducey’s opinion changed a few weeks ago when he said he would be in favor of letting the voters decide on recreational sales. Ducey does not cast a vote but does wield veto power.

The meeting, which is expected to draw a large attendance, is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Brick municipal complex on Chambers Bridge Road.

Ocean County Scanner News will be present for the meeting as this story is still developing.
