BEACHWOOD – Two men have been charged with using counterfeit money at local establishments in Forked River and Beachwood, police said.

John E. Dew, 46, of Toms River was charged with forgery and theft by deception and Irwin F. Greene, 47, of Sayreville, was charged with forgery.

Police said the two men had been discovered using counterfeit $100 bills at the Sand Castle Diner in Beachwood on Jan. 26. Earlier that same day, Lacey Police responded to the Wawa on Taylor Lane and Route 9 South in Forked River after reports of counterfeit bills being used. Dew and Greene had left the Wawa before police arrived, however the pair was caught at the Sand Castle Diner later on by Berkeley Police.

According to police, both men had active warrants. They have since been placed in Ocean County Correctional Facility.
