Plumsted: PD & EMS are responding to a residence in town for a Reported overdose. Dispatch notes this is the individual’s fourth Overdose this week. The prior three OD’s they administered Narcan themselves. This time they’re calling for a rig.

If you want to find a cause to stop wasting money in our healthcare system there are hundreds of way more expensive and way more frivolous things that you can argue for. If someone actually educated themselves on the topic they would realize that Narcan isn’t even close to one of the biggest problems but since it has become a hot topic on Facebook people jump on the bandwagon and say “let the addicts die that will teach them”. Unfortunately you aren’t just punishing addicts you would be punishing their families and for the many that are in their teens and twenties we should be thrilled they will have another shot. This is LIFE we are talking about. Even if 1 out of 1000 people hit with Narcan get their life together and stay clean it was well worth it. I hope you never have to understand what the parents of addicts who have died go through and even through their pain they are more kind and compassionate than people like yourself.
So when an ambulance is tied up 4 times in one week at the same addicts house, and someone who isn’t a drug addict needs those medics and dies, that will be ok as long as we pamper the addict? Let’s just say hypothetically (and god forbid) your young children turn to drugs when they are older. And never say never…… because you NEVER know. Will you then be singing the same tune? Will you tell paramedics to not revive your child because they are addicted to drugs? I have many friends that have lost their children to this vicious disease….. good people, good parents, and good kids. They got caught up in their addiction. Something to educate them. I put myself in that families shoes – their son or daughter just overdosed and want everything done to save their life because they know they are not a piece of shit. If that was my own I’d want the same. I would not want mine to die because people’s ideas of addicts are they don’t deserve to be revived because they used drugs and are less important. After someone is resurrected with narcan the first time they should automatically be mandated to a detox center. We shouldnt have to call 911 for the same person 3x a week. Im not saying let the person die, just saying there has to be a better way than leaving them There to keep repeating the same behavior. If a person says i want to die the cops automatically transport them to the hospital. They are typically held for 24 to 48 hrs for an observation even against their will. Do the same with the narcan recipients. Force them to get treatment and offer them social services/counceling
