At 9:39pm (21:39), a call went out to district three for a structure fire at 3008 Atlantic Ave. Cross of Rt 34 and Cardinal Drive. Several stations and engines confirmed responding, and they were off. 366 – District 3, Unit 3 arrived to find a 3 story wooden residential structure with smoke showing from the rear and seemed to establish fire scene command.

Fire scene command’s first act was to state there was was an active fire in the attic, and requested a 2nd alarm, and additional response from Point Pleasant. Dispatch was then notified that there were reports of two people entrapped. You can hear one firefighter exclaim “Chief, we got two trapped in here, it looks like DOA”. The Chief acknowledged and responded that they need to keep to channel six and stay off of channel one.

Command verified there were two entrapment’s, and were working on getting them out followed quickly by medics requested to the scene. It was not long after that that it was confirmed that one entrapment had exited the building, and then the 2nd had exited the building and all entrapment’s were out.

It has been confirmed by the Monmouth Count Prosecutor’s office that there was one fatality, and one serious injury. Christopher Swendeman of the prosecutors office said that Nicholas Maino, 92 died in the fire while his wife, Joan Maino, 86, suffered extensive injuries and currently remains hospitalized.

When command asked for an eta for Utilities, dispatch said there was no ETA, but that JCP&L and NJNG were notified they needed to get there “ASAP”.

Command requested that two more rigs be dispatch, and dispatch sent out the call. The next update came saying that one line was stretched, that all ventilation had been completed, all searches had been completed, and that at that time, the fire was out.

When the first medic arrived, they were told to get as close to the house as possible because they had an ankle injury. That rig departed to Jersey Shore.
