Police arrested a driver after they say he overdosed on heroin and crashed into another car in the city Tuesday night.
Officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to the crash in the 1100 block of Arctic Avenue at 9:57 p.m.
They arrived to find 24-year-old Daniel Cormier, of Little Egg Harbor Township, unconscious behind the wheel.

Adam, why is it necessary to be so cruel to people, especially (potentially, you actually likely don’t know here) the family member of someone with an addiction? Members of the family are the ones most likely to be the most deeply hurt (outside of anyone who may be injured or killed by an addict). Why pour salt in the wound and, what’s worse, laugh about it?
Alcholism is also a disease. My dad died from it. As a child all I wanted was for him to pass out so we could take him to get help at a hospital. Unless it was his choice they wouldn’t take him ?. I was 23 when he died. I’ve also lost friends to herion. Heartbreaking for family members that have tried everything. Something needs to be done..soon. Young ppl with the wrong group of friends may fall into addiction. Don’t need to bash me either.. I won’t be back on site.

Jessica Duff What John Brogan does is criminal. However, there are excellent programs out there with true peer recovery support that make a regular normal wage. If your going to post about corruption that’s fine. John Brogan deserves it. But its not the entire industry. RWJ Barnabus is doing amazing things with their program in hospitals

I still hurt but my surgeon cut me off of painkillers that would make an addicts head spin so fast it would go flying around like a toy airplane. Diane Araneo I recovered after I told myself I didn’t have a disease. I had a habit and I was addicted. No medication could cure my “disease” but I could. It’s all about choice IMO. Many many many addicts hate the label, disease. It just makes us look more ugly. It’s all about choice and change for most and we are the problem not the drugs.

I knew a guy who was really bad. Not needle bad but 20 bundles every three days bad. He did the Trainspotting thing and cut himself off through sickness and sufferering. He’s an alchohlic pothead now but that’s far better.

I had a handful or more of friends who overdosed and died. They chose to shoot up, one was clean for 2 years. He CHOSE TO SHOOT UP. Now let’s speak diseases. My sister DIED from breast cancer at the age of 23. That’s a disease. Cancer and stuff that isn’t a CHOICE. Addiction is just that. That can be cured. Some diseases cannot.

Wow … so having bipolar disorder is a choice, too (at least, according to one of the commenters)? That’s messed up. Try cracking open some actual books on neurobiology/neurochemistry sometime. Or talking to a psychiatrist or psychologist who is trained in dealing with mental illness.
When the neurotransmitters our brains and bodies rely upon to function become imbalanced (and in some people, they actually start that way) — which is what’s happening in things like bipolar disorder and depression — people very often subconsciously seek ways in which to try to compensate, because they don’t actually know what’s going on internally. Rather than admit to themselves or anyone else that they might have a mental disorder, because it’s still highly stigmatized thanks to massive ignorance, they don’t seek help from physicians but look for things that make them feel better — usually alcohol and/or drugs. If they ever wind up with a diagnosis, it’s often too late, and so on top of whatever the underlying illness is, they also have to deal with addiction and that makes it twice as difficult.
Do people make stupid-ass choices because of their addiction? Oh, hell yes. Are they negligent, hurtful, and deceptive? Do they do things that can (and should) land them in jail? Absolutely. Is it “their fault”? That’s more complicated than the black-and-white y’all seem to think it is. Maybe try approaching the issue with some more education on the complexities of human physiology and a hell of a lot more empathy and compassion.
There is -no- need to be as cruel as what I see on this page daily. None.

One the problems in trying to end this terrifying epidemic is that Rehabs seem to not work that well. I think that these rehabs need to take a better look at the way they run their program
