TOMS RIVER – The Ocean County Vocational Technical School’s Toms River Center is undergoing some much-needed renovations.

The renovations and construction were made possible by a contribution from the HA Hovnanian Foundation.

The Toms River Center is having exterior faced insulation system panels installed, as well as a new metal soffit and fascia system and new exterior sunshades above the windows. New canopies at both the front and rear entrances are being constructed, and the main atrium lobby area is being redesigned to accommodate security upgrades.

The new focal point including signage and reader boards is a tower being built near Old Freehold and Bey Lea roads. The area will be fully ADA accessible.

Those renovations should be done in early 2019.

The OCVTS was founded in 1959. Its Toms River location, built in 1975, was the fourth of seven centers to open.

A state-of-the-art practical nursing training facility is being constructed in the Toms River Center. The facility allows nursing students many hands-on opportunities in their training.

“The Toms River Center is our hub for medical and healthcare programs, one of Ocean County’s largest industries. We offer a variety of programs to high school and adult students. The makeover and state of the art nursing laboratory has helped bring attention to the career pathways that are available to students of Ocean County. We have seen an increased interest in our high school medical programs, which include Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, and Medical Skills/Health Related Careers. Our post-secondary medical programs have also experienced similar growth this year,” OCVTS Director of Curriculum Gary MacDonald said.

He continued: “The Practical Nursing Program and the Adult Certified Medical Assisting Program have both seen significant enrollment increases. The impact that Ms. Edele Hovnanian and the Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Foundation has had on the medical programming at OCVTS has been incredible. We are very excited about the partnership and the opportunities that it provides to both current and future students! The students completing the programs will be prepared to address local workforce development needs and in turn support the economic growth of the local healthcare industry.”
