Matt Hage began searching for a puppy on pet finder in the fall. That’s when he stumbled upon a “Boykin” puppy on Crazy Rescue Ladies. He reached out to them and filled out an application to adopt a female Boykin named Pixie. The next two months was a rollercoaster ride of emotions, disappointments and growing suspicions.

After completing the application Matt was told that they needed to do a home inspection to make sure his home was safe for Pixie. He agreed and waited for the inspection. Instead Matt received a phone call from Aimee from Crazy Rescue Ladies requesting that he just send a video of his home. Matt sent a video of his kitchen and living room only and his application was approved. He never provided video of his yard or fenced area.

Matt and his family were excited and ready to meet and pick up Pixie and began making arrangements. On two separate occasions a weekend apart Matt and his family was driving to Brick to pick up Pixie but on both occasions they were called and told there was a problem and to turn around and not come. Matt and his family were very disappointed when on the first cancelation Aimee from Crazy Rescue Ladies told them that the woman who was fostering Pixie refused to give her up and she was on her way to the police station to file charges. The following weekend the transfer of Pixie was canceled again with Aimee advising Matt that there was a warrant issued for the arrest of Pixie’s foster. The following week Aimee advised there was a court date scheduled and she offered Matt one of Pixie’s siblings, Maddie. Matt agreed and Aimee failed to come through and backed out on delivery of Maddie. Matt had never applied for a dog through a rescue so he was trusting and relying on a volunteer who was helping him from Crazy Rescue Ladies as well as Aimee for guidance. Matt said the volunteer, whose name he was not comfortable sharing, was sweet and helpful and voiced her frustrations over being “fed up” with Aimee.

November 26, 2022, finally, Matt and his family are heading to Brick for the third time to bring home Pixie, who they have now been working on getting for two months. Matt found it odd that he was meeting the volunteer he had been communicating with at Crazy Rescue Ladies at Petco in Brick instead of the rescue. He was taken back even more when someone named Michele showed up instead of the volunteer. Michele never disclosed she was an owner and said she was there to deliver Pixie and pick up payment.

When Matt and his family was introduced to Pixie he couldn’t help but notice that Pixie had dried feces all over her and smelled bad. When he asked Michele she responded that she may have had an accident in the crate on her way over. Matt said he could tell that it was not a recent accident. Michele was unable to answer questions because she was just being sent to drop off Pixie. Matt advised Michele’s blanket response was “I really don’t know anything. I was just asked to bring Pixie here.” Matt also does not believe Pixie is the same dog he put the application in on two months earlier.

Matt was promised a discount by Aimee for all of his inconveniences and was assured he would be very satisfied. The adoption fee was $500 and was discounted to $400. A combination of frustration and relief Matt and his family left with Pixie to give her a new start to a happily ever after life.

I asked Matt if Pixie was spayed and vaccinated when she was delivered to him on November 26th and he said she was not spayed but the rescue would pay for that but she was vaccinated and he provided us with a copy of a rabies certificate indicating that Pixie was vaccinated on November 28th, 2022 which was impossible since he already had her. I also pointed out that there was no number on the certificate and asked if he was given a rabies tag and he was not. I then asked if he was provided with any of her vet records and he was not. He was provided with a one page form filled out by the rescue with dates of vaccinations. Ironically on this form it indicates that Pixie has her rabies vaccine November 20, 2022. Obviously, he is now concerned as to whether or not Pixie had been vaccinated.

Pixie is one lucky girl saved in the Nick of time. The photos show the love and bond that has already developed with this beautiful family. Pixie and her family was out picking out their Christmas tree today. Hopefully Pixie’s rough start is a distant memory and her life is full of long walks, chasing balls and maybe fishing with her dad. Happy tails beautiful girl.
