On October 21st 2022 at approximately 1:13pm, the Berkeley Township Police responded to the area of Bananier Drive and Jamaica Boulevard for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers learned that the crash involved one motor vehicle and one pedestrian.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Ford E150 Van was traveling southbound on Bananier Drive. Upon turning left onto Jamaica Boulevard, the vehicle struck a pedestrian that was crossing Jamaica Boulevard within the crosswalks. The pedestrian, a 94 year old female, sustained a head injury and loss of consciousness. She was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Hospital where she was listed as stable with non-life threatening fractures.

The driver of the vehicle, John Williams 55 of Berkeley, was issued multiple summonses for Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk, Improper Turn, Careless Driving, and Unregistered vehicle.

This crash is still under investigation by Ptl. C. Elliott and Ptl. S. Varady of the Berkeley Township Traffic Safety Unit.
