The Police Department has received several calls from residents expressing concern for their safety following a reported shooting on Morristown Rd. in Old Bridge Twp. last night. Please be advised that although this incident is still being actively investigated, there is no known danger to the public. Additionally, rumors have been circulating that a police officer was shot during this incident. Those rumors are FALSE.

If there was any immediate threat to the residents in the area or to the public in general, notification would have been made via the Borough’s Emergency Notification Systems SWIFT911 and NIXLE. Matawan officers were on location and assisted Old Bridge Twp. Police. At no time was the safety of our residents compromised and at no time did this incident jeopardize the safety of the students attending the Ravine Dr. Elementary School.

In keeping with our mission of providing a safe community to our residents by reducing crime and the fear of crime, as usual, there will be a strong police presence at the Ravine Dr. Elementary School. The men and women of the Matawan Police Department are committed to doing everything we can to safeguard our community’s most precious asset, our children.
