BRICK: On the evening of December 8th, the Brick Police received a report that a Lake Riviera Middle School student made a threat that involved the use of a firearm. An uninvolved student had overheard another student make suspicious statements, and that student told their parent. Acting on the information provided by that parent, Detectives worked with school officials to identify the suspect, who was ultimately charged with making Terroristic Threats. Detectives also searched the juvenile suspect’s home and no firearms were found other than a pellet gun that belongs to the juvenile’s guardian. The pellet gun was taken for safe keeping with the permission of the owner.

The Brick Police and the Brick Schools are committed to the safety and wellbeing of all our students, staff, parents, and community. Chief Riccio would like to thank the school administration as well as the student and parent who reported the incident. The Chief wants to ensure the community that “we always take such threats seriously,” and that we encourage anyone who sees or hears of suspicious activity to report it immediately. Threats and suspicious activity can be reported directly to the Police, or to school officials, or by using the WeTip link on the school district website.
