A Newark police officer is accused of fatally striking a pedestrian, taking the man’s body home, and then returning to the scene with the body in his back seat. Prosecutors say 25 year old Luis Santiago hit Damian Dymka, a 29-year-old nurse, while he was walking around 3 a.m. on the shoulder of the Garden State Parkway. According to reports neither Santiago nor his passenger, Albert Guzman, called 911 or rendered aid to Dymka after he was struck. Santiago, and his passenger reportedly went back to the scene multiple times before they put Dymka into the Honda Accord where they went to Santiago’s home, where he, Guzman and Santiago’s mother, Annette Santiago, discussed what to do. Santiago faces charges of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a deadly accident, endangering an injured victim and two counts of official misconduct. Santiago’s passenger Guzman and his mother Ms. Santiago were also arrested, charged and released.They each face charges including hindering apprehension and conspiracy to desecrate human remains and tamper with physical evidence.
