An investigation has been launched into an allegation of hazing within the Wall High School football program, NJ Advance Media has learned.

During a phone call Tuesday in response to a request for comment on hazing allegations regarding the football team, Wall Township Board of Education President Ralph Addonizio read a statement on behalf of the district confirming the probe.

“Upon becoming aware of the allegation, we immediately contacted the appropriate authorities,” Addonizio said in the statement. “There’s a pending investigation, and the school district is cooperating fully. We cannot comment further on a pending investigation of a student matter.”

Addonizio declined to elaborate on the statement.

Wall football coach Tony Grandinetti and superintendent of schools Tracy Handerhan did not respond to phone messages Tuesday seeking comment.

Capt. Greg Carpino of the Wall Police Department referred questions about hazing allegations to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Mark Spivey, public information officer for MCPO, declined comment via email, writing that “juvenile records are by their nature confidential, and therefore we cannot confirm nor deny any details about this matter.”

One of the premier programs in New Jersey, Wall is currently 6-3 on the season and scheduled to host Delsea Friday night in the South Jersey, Group 3 state playoffs. The team played last Friday, beating Hopewell Valley, 42-7, in the first round of the postseason.
