TOMS RIVER: Around 21:30 this evening the TRPD responded to the area of Hazelwood @ Cattus Island Boulevard for an unknown disturbance/ assault. TRPD has since confirmed an active investigation relating to the aggravated assault is underway. OCSN learned the suspect vehicle is a black 2018 BMW 4-door sedan with tinted windows- and NJ tags. A BOLO was issued to all surrounding jurisdictions to attempt to locate the vehicle.


OCSN has ascertained up to three suspects were inside the BMW when they were allegedly speeding through the neighborhood on Hazelwood. A crowd was outside in the street enjoying fireworks and a friendly gathering- when they yelled for the vehicle to slow down. Witnesses tell OCSN possibly three suspects emerged from the BMW when it stopped at a corner. One injury has been confirmed as a victim was struck severely to where they had to be airlifted to JSUMC. This incident became an aggravated assault as the victim was knocked down, with blood visible in the roadway. The entire altercation is on neighbors’ surveillance video we are hearing; and a complete NJ tag was obtained from the BMW.
