The Jersey shore has some of the craziest parties. However, it’s not just humans partying it up…..It’s horseshoe crabs! Right now in cape may county thousands of horseshoe crabs are getting it on and smacking their partners shells! Every year thousands of horseshoe crabs get washed up to shore to lay their eggs. The high tides and moons cause the crabs to wash ashore and then they get it on! Female horseshoe crabs burry themselves in the sand and lay approximately 4,000 eggs. Within four weeks these eggs will hatch and become larvae. If the birds don’t see them the crabs will become adult horseshoe crabs. The following year the pack of horseshoe crabs will wash up on the beach and have another massive orgy again! Horseshoe crabs sure know how to start off the summer with a bang!
