As we have hinted at over the last few weeks; Ocean County Scanner News (OCSN) is preparing to roll out OCSN 3.0 to the world. Much of this was scheduled to be implemented today on March 30, 2021 for the public to swoon over, but we ran out of people or events to blame. However, like many great things- we have stumbled upon some minor roadblocks here at OCSN. Transitioning from a loose-knit group of volunteers into an organized media outlet is a massive dream- one that scares the local established media giants out of their pantaloons. Much of the planning and features are written out, but physical adaptation and implementation is far more difficult. That being said, features like OCSN Weather Forecasting, Fully-functional scanner live feeds, Enhanced Instagram content, and a new OCSN Sub-Reddit page have already begun to roll out. Towards the future, we are working on a YouTube channel, along with other experimental offerings for the public. All of this is a massive undertaking, the likes OCSN hasn’t underwent since around 2018. This page was launched way back in July 2013, and has run essentially on auto-pilot for 8 years now. Time to refocus, regroup, and deliver factual & unbiased news at at time Americans need it most- with many not even recognizing this. We promise our 50,000+ fans that OCSN will not stray from the same basic award-winning journalism you all have grown to love (or hate).

In order to make this rollout more effective, OCSN is still looking to add staff to our growing organization. We have many roles we are looking to fill, in varying capacities. At this time OCSN is NOT posting a help-wanted ad with the promise of earning a stable salary with our organization. We are looking for invested people to join OCSN in one of the roles detailed below- to help the page become a profitable media organization. While we have the numbers and followings to achieve this goal, it cannot be done without the actual work of staff members producing the content. If you are interested in joining Ocean County Scanner News in any official capacity, please review our openings below and email us. You can email [email protected] with any and all questions- or resumes. Think of this opportunity as a chance to get in on a ground-level with the future being dictated on the work we all produce in this emerging serious player in the hyper-local media world. OCSN also holds the Monmouth County Scanner News Facebook page, which is mainly a placeholder until we expand into our neighbors to the north.

Below is a general hierarchical organizational chart describing some of the various roles OCSN offers. Should you be interested in joining, or finding our more information- please email us ASAP. Use: [email protected] for all inquiries about joining our staff. PLEASE NOTE: None of these positions offer a guaranteed income or salary; we are simply organizing our new team to detect where we can monetize our operations. Profits, should they begin, will be split accordingly & equally based off the amount of work put into your role.

100 Level: Administrators

OCSN Administrators will be trained in scanner listening, OPRA filing, research capabilities, media gathering, publishing, public inquiries, and public events. Plus, admins will be expected to be trained in all 200-900 level job duties. Administrators will have full access to OCSN and will be expected to have generally open availability based off the needs of the business. Admins will also be responsible for moderating public comments, banning or handling abusive users, and general fighting among the comments. Admins in the 181-199 level will be expected to be trained in IT, and work with our existing IT director, Staff #180.

200 Level: Full Publishing Journalists

OCSN journalists in this role will have full access to company Facebook, Instagram, website, and all other existing or future social media outlets. 200 level journalists will be expected to be able to capture or gather media, research stories, listen to scanners, and publish written articles with perfect grammar & spelling to the world. Editing supervisors will be responsible for training, coaching, and proofreading journalists, and their stories when applicable.

300 Level: Media Representatives

OCSN media representatives in this role will be primarily responsible for gathering and editing media for us on OCSN platforms. Media can be photographs, videos, audio recordings, or any other file that needs to be edited and/or uploaded to WordPress with applicable tags for searching. Regular 300 level staff may or may not have publishing access; other staff will rely on your work. Media supervisors will be responsible for ensuring OCSN holds a license to use media that is not our own.

400 Level: Scanner Monitors

OCSN scanner monitors will play a vital role in our media outlet. These staffers will be responsible for listening to scanners routinely and posting data from potential calls to our proprietary CAD system. With raw data from the scanner, other level staff members can use the information to create or expand a story on OCSN. Staff in this role may or may not have publishing access, or media access- we all will rely on the information gathered here. These staff members will also be responsible for learning and using DVR or replay services as they become available. Communications supervisors will be responsible for programming staff scanners, or public scanners for us to sell for profit.

500 Level: Research & Publishing Editors

OCSN research & publishing editors will be the basic brains behind the stories. These staff members will be fully trained in OPRA & OPRA Machine- along with how to initiate a media request from an outside organization. Also, using basic internet search techniques to research history, future, or other facts needed to complete a story. 500 level staff will also be responsible for routinely checking OCSN inboxes, tip lines, or all other public communication methods to submit news to us. Editing supervisors here will ensure all research is completed as timely and factually as possible.

600 Level: Back Office Support & Sales This will be a new department with OCSN, and they will be responsible for many tasks to ease admin duties. The Assistant Administrators in this level will be responsible for overseeing the whole team; and will serve as page administrator at the absence or designee of a 100-level admin. A core group of staff will be experts in filing OPRA’s, Handling feedback from the public, Posting general page statuses about OCSN, Working public events to handout swag or charity events, Attending public and/or governmental meetings, and a sales team. Sales teams will canvass local business to secure page advertising. OCSN is very liberal in the types of ads we accept- and traditionally a 50/50 commission split is guaranteed on new businesses advertising with OCSN. We offer traditional banner or box ads, public events with OCSN Street Team, Grand-Opening style documentary advertisements, or any other profitable ways to use OCSN to promote paid businesses or organizations. The 640-659 assigned staff members will also work non-profit and/or community events. This includes, but is not limited to- lost pets, police, fire, EMS events/fundraisers/announcements, or anything else that traditionally does not come over a scanner. These are key events and news that the community needs to know about.

900 Level: Interns & Training

This is the group of staff members who wish to join OCSN but are still in training. Interns will also occupy this group as they maintain a role at OCSN. Learning supervisors in this group will be essentially teachers, but responsible for our upcoming staff to be properly trained in the OCSN way of operation. Should a trainee or intern graduate to actual staff, their number will be promoted to their appropriate new role and assignment.
