Recently the Asbury Park Press made a huge oopsie when a misogynistic/ offensive photo caption made its’ way onto the website for readers to see. The original photo with offensive caption is at the bottom of this article, and you can read it for yourself. The Executive Asbury Park Press editor, Paul D’Ambrosio has released an apology accepting the mistake, but offers no explanation as to how this was even printed- let alone failed to catch the eyes of proofreaders.

The photo caption reads “A Fu*king hot nurse, a total JAP…” which means a Jewish American Princess, which is a slang derogatory term for Jewish females. It was up for almost 14 hours until anyone noticed- which goes to show the news outlets many of you view as “professional” make mistakes also. We here at OCSN particularly find this ironic as the APP often takes shots at us for being unprofessional or other crap they bash us over. However, in the 8 year history of Ocean County Scanner News- we NEVER did anything this bad! Keep paying $0.99 for 6 months of this crap though!

Here is the exact text taken from Paul on the APP website for readers to accept his graveling.

APP: Late on March 20, a photo ran on with an unapproved and offensive caption. The photo was removed March 21 as soon as it was brought to our attention. As executive editor of the Asbury Park Press, I apologize deeply to women, the Lakewood Jewish community, the Asian American community and all our readers.

The words in the caption were totally unacceptable and in no way reflect the principles and practices of the staff of the Press and Gannett. The Press and Gannett have a long history of fighting for inclusiveness, diversity and women’s rights. We took immediate and significant action once we became aware of the issue, and we changed our online procedures to ensure such an event never happens again.
