Telephone and Internet fraud continue to scam local residents out of thousands of dollars. Police usually are unable to recover your funds as these scammers are in countries far away with lax enforcement of fraud laws. Remember- Nobody will ever ask you to send money, buy iTunes or Google gift cards and give them the PIN. Just hang up and make a police report- NEVER give personal or account information.

LACEY: On Sunday, February 21, 2021, at 11:01 p.m., Officer Dallas Gant met with a Township resident in reference to suspected fraud.  The victim reported that he received an email from Best Buy stating that they deducted $99.99 from his bank account for his Geek Squad account.  The victim, not having such an account, contacted the attached phone number.  The alleged representative explained that the charge was a mistake and asked the victim for access to his computer in order to refund the payment.  The representative then explained that he had accidentally credited the victim’s account with $4099.99 and asked that he forward the difference of $4,000.  The victim realized the attempted fraud prior to transferring funds.
