LACEY: Police are responding to a residence on the 100 Block of Frog Hollow Road for a balloon dilemma. The caller reports balloons were released into the air, and are now entangled. It’s unclear if the caller or the neighbor released the balloons, but now they are entangled in the power lines. Police on scene are reporting the issue and pole number to JCP&L. At this time OCSN doesn’t know what types of balloons they are, meaning “Happy Birthday” or “Cheer Up Soon” or just generic cheap color ones.

Lacey PD has cleared the scene and noted the balloons aren’t an immediate power hazard. However if the balloons were intentionally released and if the police can charge someone- it could cost the suspect $1,000 in fines. OCSN found this legislation in NJ introduced in 06/29/2020 prohibiting the intentional outdoor release of balloons and floating devices. Of course there’s a $1,000 fine attached to the bill as a penalty. Hopefully this cuts back the amount of animals that die from improperly discarded balloons and strings each year.
