TOMS RIVER: Usually we post shoplifting calls at the Lacey Walmart, as that seems to be a hotbed of criminal activity. However, OCSN is learning how Walmarts in general are responsible for massive amounts of police requests throughout the country. We have begun to file Open Public Record Acts (OPRA) to determine which Walmart in Ocean County has the most shoplifting incidents. This is going to be a long-term project as we file and pull the police reports for each Walmart in Ocean County. We can’t promise award-winning journalism overnight, but we have received the data from Toms River so far. In the coming weeks, OCSN will publish one massive comprehensive story showing the call/incident data for each Walmart location.

TRPD CAD Narrative showing case numbers for 10 calls since 11/01/2020

In the document above OCSN has learned that Toms River Police have responded 10 times between 11/01/2020 and 02/15/2021. Each incident number is a case number, which can be pulled to see who stole what, and how. For now, we are just compiling raw data to see trends in the numbers.
