LACEY: Yesterday we shared the photos of the yellow poles massacred yet again on Lacey Road. The Ocean County Road Department has tried NO LEFT TURN signs, and now these little yellow plastic poles to stop motorists from making an illegal left turn along the roadway. Normally drivers are permitted to cross a solid yellow line to turn into a business or private residence- however large signs override and enforce the left-turn prohibition. The two problem areas seem to be at the shoe-horned Dunkin Donuts and Wawa by the police station of all places. However, the plastic yellow poles seem not to be an effective deterrent as the promise of overpriced dishwater coffee and stale doughnuts keeps motorists plowing them over like a game.
Some readers have proposed a concrete divider wall, or park a cop to write tickets. OCSN proposes another idea, which is quite popular in California and large cities. The county needs to install spike strips like seen below in Venice Beach, CA. Motorists are warned to not proceed- or they will suffer SEVERE TIRE DAMAGE. Maybe after these careless entitled drivers pay for a few sets of 4 tires they will learn to follow the rules of the road!
So, keep sending us those pictures of the yellow poles getting plowed down- it makes for good fodder!
Lacey Chatter people are savages behind their keyboards and assh*les when it comes to driving ❤️
Victoria Carmella
Let a couple of those big boi spikes adjust their tire pressure a few times. They’ll think twice before turning in next time.
Ocean County Scanner News – ???????????????? I’d love to send you photos of that!!
Ocean County Scanner News I think Lacey PW finally realized it was a waste of money replacing the yellow cones.
The police, occasionally will need to make those left turns to get somewhere fast as will ambulances and other EMS vehicles..those spike strips do not discriminate, they shred everything. Those spike strips will undoubtedly cause accidents as people will lose control and head into oncoming lanes. God FORBID people just be careful, and maybe follow the posted LAWS? Or is that too much to ask??
Keith Childers if people followed the law it wouldn’t be necessary. Hence they are necessary
Sean Rochette yes I agree certain needs must be met. Bring back traffic light cameras, send tickets, and suspended scofflaws. To shred tires and place innocent people in harms way and potentially compound one broken law for a broken law AND a possible MVA!? Is that the best route we can decide upon? The cameras were fine, it was liberal idiots who feel they infringed upon civil rights, BULLS**T! The cameras were taken down why exactly? I agree with the whole “follow the posted laws” mantra. It’s the percentage of asshol*s behind the wheel who are incapable of following simple posted rules, who CAUSE those accidents!
Apparently ????♂️
Sean Rochette wait a second….hold on…are we debating and actually..being…
CIVIL to each other!? This is an unprecedented moment on FB history!! ????
Keith Childers well I was gonna say . Run for mayor you apparently have all the answers lol . But it’s early still .
Sean Rochette sean, I never said I had all the answers, where did I say that? Do you disagree with red light cameras? I wouldn’t support the tire spikes…think of pedestrians, motorcycles, bicycles…kids…we can’t have razor sharp steel spikes coming out of the road, this isn’t mad Max…
Keith Childers all I’m saying is everyone it’s nuts . They do one thing people complain. They do something else people complain.
Sean Rochette ahh yes…it’s the classic conundrum…you can help some people all the time but not all the people all the time!
Keith Childers 60 percent of the time I’m right all the time
Sean Rochette that makes no sense….
Maybe lacey should of plan better before putting that dunkin donuts there. Lacey is now going to have to pay a cop to sit there and give out tickets. Costing the tax payers more money. Much like barnget used to do at the wawa on West bay Ave before they put a concrete divider up.
James Agnello dont they already pay cops to work??? And if the cops write tickets how is is costing the town money.
James Agnello lacey drivers just suck.
James Agnello actually having a cop sit there and give out tickets will raise money for the town, not cost them anything. The cop is already being paid. It’s pure profit.
James Agnello people should just follow rules and all this can be prevented!! But yes to some extent Lacey could have a planned it differently.
Bob Shields they do yes, but now they would have to assign one strictly for that. Which means bringing another officer on duty (who would be off) to fill in the man power.
James Agnello not necessarily how it works but ok…
Bob Shields oh not saying it is, but that how politicians would pitch it.
James Agnello but you did say that’s how it is tho. Read your comment…smh
Bob Shields costing tax payers more money is based on the construction of those yellow barriers/replacement, and if in the future they have to tear up lacey road to install a concrete divider. IF they go that route. Yes lacey road a county road, but a portion of our local taxes go towards the county.
James Agnello so which way do you want it? Safer roads or allegedly paying more for a cop??? This horse is dead bud. Move on and enjoy your day
Bob Shields thank you for pointing that out I should of clarify more on how it would be a cost tax payers. I wasn’t just thinking about the police when I wrote that but the construction and replacement of those poles. Along with any future construction to improve that area to stop the left turn.
James Agnello K. You do realize there is a budget for road construction, right? Gotta go bang my head against a wall. Take it easy
Erik Dollman they absolutely do.
Bob Shields yes I’m aware of the budget. I am taking it easy we are just having a discussion. Nothing wrong with that.
James Agnello you’ve made everything up. Not a discussion unless you’re a 4 year old. Back to banging my head against the wall. Good day sir
That’s an interesting idea. Any tire places right around there?
Steve Rickabaugh if not time to open one there.
Tyler
If lacey drivers weren’t so shitty they could still turn left into there. Too many idiots headed over the Driscoll headed south and landed in Lacey.
Ya think this is bad?, wait for the new CF when Starbucks opens at Lacey Road & Manchester Ave!
I think spike strips would end up causing accidents in this situation. People would end up with flat tires trying to make a left turn into oncoming traffic. I like the way your thinking on this though. I think we’re going to end up seeing concrete dividers on this road in the future.
It works in AC to keep people from going in and out the wrong way in the casinos.
You will still get the obnoxious entitled a-holes claiming they “have their rights” and try to sue the town for their damaged tires. A low concrete median may be the way to go like that on Rt 9/Lacey Rd intersection
Beverly Reilly Ombres you betcha! The dreaded “don’t you know who I am” will be heard more than a few times. Hahahahaha. This is why I stay away from Lacey.
Beverly Reilly Ombres from what I’ve read they are planning to install concrete dividers.
Marge Wells Anacker hopefully it’s just like this low concrete median. I certainly don’t want Lacey Road looking like a major highway with big concrete dividers
Beverly Reilly Ombres like the one they have on West Bay Ave in Barnegat by the WaWa
Leah Melia ur allergist
What it will stop is the plows when they run into them
Why spend all this rather then …. I don’t know, allow left turns
Christopher Owens this….
Maybe they should place landminds! (insert sarcasm) ????
For starters That entire parking lot is an eyesore clean it up anything could pucture a tire even if driving the right way there lol I’d never drive thru there regardless
Unfortunate these won’t work if they’re places at the entrance of the parking lots because people making a legal right turn into the DD and wawa parking lots will also have their tires blows out. Unless you’re thinking that they be strategically placed elsewhere ?
Why doesn’t Lacey put the concrete one up
I found this on the web

Some homeowners can be really finicky about their property, and to a certain extent, it’s understandable.
And if you’ve ever been on Nextdoor or any of the other neighborhood social media apps, you’ve probably seen someone complaining about how their driveway always gets used as place for cars to turn around. And every now and again, one of those upset people who don’t want anyone on their driveway asks about whether it’s legal to install spike strips on their driveway to stop it.
No, No, No, No, Not Even Maybe
In some sense, you can do whatever you want with your private property, but there are always consequences. Some things aren’t just bad ideas, they could also be both criminally illegal and expose you to civil liability.
Imagine for a moment that a child walks onto the driveway, and steps on one of the spikes, or worse, falls. You would be liable, even if there were signs that warned of the spike strips and no trespassing signs. Additionally, every person who used your driveway to turn around would have a civil claim against you for destroying their car’s tires.
Additionally, the logic just doesn’t make sense. If you don’t want people to use your driveway to turn around, why would you want them to get multiple flat tires, then have to leave their car until a flatbed tow-truck arrived? Just put up a gate, or a rope, or a sign, or anything besides spike strips.
Okay, Maybe, If You Have a Gate (But Still, Don’t)
If you have a gate that blocks your driveway and your property is fenced, then installing spike strips will pose much less of a liability risk, though the liability will never completely go away. Spike strips are dangerous and could harm your guests, or anyone else who is invited, or allowed, onto your property. If you need more convincing not to install them, just call up your home owners insurance carrier and ask them if it’s a good idea, or if it’ll raise your rates.
Generally, a person cannot install booby-traps designed to thwart trespassers on their property. Sure, you can put out bear or other animal traps, assuming it’s legal to do so in your state, and your property is fenced and has warnings posted about the traps. But if a trespasser gets injured by one of those traps, even if you have a no trespassing sign, you could still potentially be found liable depending on the specific facts of the case.
So while putting out the strips on your property may not technically be illegal (though you should definitely check your state’s specific laws and with your insurance carrier), if they ever get used, or someone gets injured, you could be in for some serious legal trouble.

Camera, large fine, ticket in the mail.
Problem solved.
Richard Christiansen those are outlawed in NJ
how about redirecting the traffic correctly instead of causing such an issue ?, apparently they don’t know how to accomplish this so people don’t have to resort to wrong way movement, like the stupidity of downtown toms river, cause god forbid we should put up another bridge to stem the flow of traffic going south say from island heights, or fischer blvd to ocean gate, idiots
can’t fix entitled and stupid
Spike strips in the middle of the road?? What kind of lunacy is that? The picture shown in Cali is a parking lot that has spike strips, at the entrance and exit… The issue is not people going into the wrong side of the entrance. The issue is they are crossing a busy street, holding up traffic, and making a left turn where there is a sign that says “no left turn”. The police station is right there and I have never seen them enforce it, not once in 10 years. Enforce and ticket people randomly for a few weeks/months and people will stop doing it. It is probably a small percent of repeat offenders who keep doing it to begin with. There is a U-turn less than 1000 feet away to properly access the Wawa. Dunkin donuts is just a damn mess, built on a tiny piece of land, without nearly enough parking or line space.
If people want to make left turns, let them. It’s not our business to try to coerce them to do otherwise. We never consented in the first place.
If people want to make left turns there, it must be an efficient route. Let’s work out some other aspect of the intersection that can be changed to allow for it.

Concrete barriers
I love the idea. Putting in concrete barriers takes to long. Spike Strips are the best. Ok, just kidding. I guess a concrete barrier would help. It will take forever to do. So just do it. Also let those causing the accidents pay for it.
Michael Ann Pease won’t take long at all…4 or 5 of semi-temporary Jersey barriers that get stacked into the roadway will work just fine.
Why not design the road to let traffic flow freely from a popular destination? Typical jersey mantra: fine instead of fix.
So your point is to disable a vehicle now in that spot changing traffic flow ?????
That’ll work. ????????
Must be a lot of liberals in here.
Traffic pattern should be changed because they’re oppressed. Lmao
The real question should be asked of the genius’s of the township that allowed the DD to be built there in the first place!
Camera and heavy fines for all would offset the cost of fixing the problem that the township created!
Chris Sullivan but the same problem exists at Wawa. Jersey barriers would work just fine in both locations.
That lot was way too small for a dunkin donuts. People are literally blocking traffic to get in line in the morning. Meanwhile the waretown Dunking has a lot at least double the size and never backs up on to rt 9.
I can’t imagine anyone stopped on Lacey rd in line waiting for coffee is not a public safety hazard!
Doesn’t make sense!
