TOMS RIVER: On Sunday, February 21, 2021, at approximately 2:50 PM multiple police units were dispatched to 5th Ave for a reported male in duress who had barricaded himself in his home.  Over the course of two hours, our officer’s made several attempts via telephone and megaphone to contact him to no avail.

After all efforts had been exhausted, members of the Toms River Emergency Service Unit (ESU) assembled to the rear of the house.  At approximately 5:30 PM the ESU team had entered the residence through the rear glass sliding door and detained the subject. Officers transported him to Monmouth Medical South without incident.

“Our main goal was to get the gentleman the help he needed. We were fortunate that everyone remained safe and went home to their families that evening as incidents like this can potentially end much differently. I am extremely proud of the conduct, professionalism, and compassion our officers, detectives, and dispatchers displayed, and continue to display, every day.” ~Chief Mitch Little
