TOMS RIVER (Silverton): Earlier today Toms River PD, Silverton Fire, and Silverton EMS responded to Mariner’s Cove apartments. This is the complex at the end of Kettle Creek on Green Island, the former run-down Holiday on the Bay complex. The original call was for a male party in the lagoon, screaming for help. Responders arrived in moments, including Chief Sinnot of the Fire Department, and along with some neighbors- the victim was pulled out safely.

The victim was an elderly male patient whom allegedly was innocently feeding the swans. Feeding waterfowl is a common occurrence in our area, and swans need to eat too. This whole feeding situation became dangerous as the elderly male was intoxicated. At some point the victim fell into the lagoon, and he began screaming for help.

Medics were asked to respond to the complex Code 3, which means lights & sirens- and arrive as quickly and safely as possible to a scene. The intoxicated male patient was transported via ambulance to Ocean Medical Center (Brick Hospital) for evaluation.

Remember everyone to stay safe, as always. Please feed birds sober as they usually won’t be able to assist you when danger surfaces!
