TOMS RIVER: If a tire rolls down Route 9, and nobody hears it- did it happen? Fortunately (or unfortunate) we live in an age of surveillance, and a misunderstanding between a tire and a trailer was captured on film.
Our good friend Paul, TR’s favorite delivery driver, is out traveling the treacherous roads of Ocean County daily. Today’s news reel shows a Pickup truck towing a trailer, and the tire just falls off and rolls. Then it rolls towards an ambulance, possibly striking, and back down US 9 in a hilarious manner. To make it even more scary, or comical, the mishap occurred at the busy nightmare intersection of US 9 @ CR 571 in Toms River.

Funny as actually NJ does have a tire tax of $1.50/ tire when purchased. It was last amended in 08/2004, which would place it under the administration of James McGreevey, a Democrat. The Honorable Governor McGreevey would not serve his full term as he resigned after a public scandal involving his sexuality. While his notable achievements included reforming the DMV, he went out resigning as our first openly-Gay Governor. In early 2002, news broke of a sexual affair happening with his male Homeland Security Advisor, Golan Cipel. He was married to a female at the time, and he resigned in a manner to have avoided a special election in November to replace the governor. Doing so allowed the Democratic Party to retain control of the governorship for the rest of the 4-year term, until 2006.
Anyway, James McGreevey is still active among politics, but boy was New Jersey the butt of jokes on that one. Makes the beach chair drama seem like amateur hour on the shore.
So thanks, McGreevey for being governor when the tire tax was last amended.

As if Murphy’s new inventive taxes aren’t going unnoticed? Sometimes we as long-term NJ residents remember this same rich executive dog & pony show of buying their way into office. Taxes go up, and now the politicians don’t even hide it- they run campaigns on tax hikes.

Great video and perfect music. However, I did witness a tire come off of a tractor trailer and land in the windshield of a car killing both driver and passenger. Thank God this was not as traumatic
