TOMS RIVER: On Monday January 4th, 2021 at approximately 5:50 PM police were dispatched to the intersection of Fischer Blvd and Shore Blvd for reports of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Frank Sblendorio, 66 of Berkeley, was traveling northbound on Fischer Blvd. approaching Shore Blvd when he stated that a pedestrian “appeared out of nowhere” and he was subsequently struck by Mr. Sblendorio’s vehicle.  The pedestrian is identified as Michael Marsh, 39 of Brick.

Michael McClellan, 40 of Belmar, was traveling northbound on Fischer Blvd. when he noticed the struck pedestrian lying in the roadway.  In an attempt to avoid striking the pedestrian, he veered to the right side of the roadway, striking the curb and ultimately left the roadway coming to a rest on the northeast corner of Fischer and Shore Blvd.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Michael Marsh had attempted to cross Fischer Blvd from west to east on Shore Blvd against the crosswalk signal, causing the driver to strike him, and subsequently causing the second vehicle to strike the curb and continue off the roadway.  Mr. Marsh was transported to Jersey Shore Medical University via ambulance for injuries sustained in the accident.

There was no indication of impairment on either of the drivers or the pedestrian. There are no charges at this time. The accident is being investigated by Toms River Police Officer Dan Herr.
