New Jersey: So usually we have scanners running during the day as we enjoy listening to society at their worst. Other media outlets have posted how sledding was banned somehow today for Covid/ Social Distancing rules in NJ. We don’t have the specifics of the law, but two parks in Monmouth County closed for public sledding citing Covid as their reasoning. So we have that, and now we are hearing calls on NJ Park Police to respond to popular sledding hills to cancel the fun. We feel bad for the kids who couldn’t even have a snow day sledding during the saddest Christmas season of their lives- NO FUN! The poor cops who have to respond to these calls and be seen as the “Fun Police” and break up the sledding hills. Kids may now make this negative connotation to cops and law enforcement based off experiences like this. The police are just doing their jobs- government orders need to be followed as a public servant. Now hopefully police can still use discretion and judgement when responding to these calls, and neutralize the situation. It is just really a sad situation all around, and doesn’t have to be this way.

We did not catch the actual disposition of this specific call, but we are sure sledding during a pandemic will be a law enforcement issue ongoing. As if all that isn’t sad enough, the actual people who called in these kinds of complaints! Imagine taking the time out of your day to dial the police to report kids sledding on a hill? If there is a danger or something needs emergency attention- sure! By all means keep cell phones handy when people are sledding- injuries can and do happen. But how miserable of a person must one be to report kids sledding on a hill solely because they are having fun?
