Have you seen store clearance signs go up in your local GameStop? Signs have popped up in at least four stores in the Garden State this month on top of the news of Gamestop closing 1000 stores by the end of the fiscal year.
- 141 – Cherry Hill, NJ – Cherry Hill Mall, 2000 Cherry Hill Mall #1036
- 1614 – Hackensack, NJ – Summit Plaza, 380 W. Pleasantview Ave.
- 4087 – Paramus, NJ – Paramus Park Mall, 1370 Paramus Park
- 1461 – Woodbridge, NJ – Woodbridge Center, 250 Woodbridge Center Dr. #2640
Attributing losses to when Microsoft’s XBOX and Sony’s PlayStation both started offering online game purchases and downloads via consoles and not requiring visits to physical stores. Gamestop has been fighting declining sales quarter after quarter and have continued to lessen their losses but with all the issues this year, it’s hard for anyone to keep so many physical stores up and running.
A recently updated list of GameStop locations that have been tagged as closing can be found here: Gamestop Closing List: December 2020 – January 2021 Closings (Updating Regularly) (gsclosing.blogspot.com)
More information on GameStop’s path to righting itself, and what landed them in this position can be found here: This Legendary Chain Is Closing Over 1,000 Stores by March (bestlifeonline.com)
I’ll give them $10 for all their inventory ✋
Keri Farley probably more than it’s worth????
Bri Baker About what they would give when we tried to sell them stuff????
Is it really a loss though…they’ve been a ripoff forever.
Mike Josephson agreed!!!
Were they really? I mean taking old games I wasn’t playing and exchanging them for store credit and putting them to a new one was kind of a cool concept and saved me a lot of $ over the years.
Better than paying $60 for each game at Walmart.
Michael Touli taking old games that cost $60 and giving you $4 to sell it for $35…glad you feel ok with it.
Mike Josephson Walmart gives you nothing.. zip… zero…
I do… because I wasn’t playing them anyway. What else was I going to do? Sell them for the same price on eBay? Pay for shipping and handling and worry about the other person not getting it?
You presented no other options lol instead just played smug guy who usually have no points.
Where are you getting $4 anyway? Were you bringing in copies of your Sega Saturn games in 2018? I got plenty more than that. Again. Present a better option than keeping games and letting them collect dust lol
Annette Crawford Hall and? Defend game stop all you want, they rip people off.
Mike Josephson so I would assume you just don’t shop there. Not defending them.
Store has
Policies for buy backs don’t like it buy elsewhere.
Yet you still had no cohesive arguments. What did our education system do to our kids?
Like why try to make a business
Michael Touli apparently that buying a 60 dollar game and selling it for 4 dollars is acceptable. I mean who pays to ship shit anymore…the buyer thats who. Can sell any reasonably new game for 20 bucks buyer pays shipping, but this younger generation looks for easy/ lazy way out..
Matthew Larsen no one said not to,but whiney people don’t like MY opinion. Truth be told idgaf…this is why its MY opinion. No one said you had to like it or agree with it,and who really cares?
Mike Josephson well I think you answered you’re own QUESTION. No one cares
Again you keep reiterating that same argument in your head and are arguing with yourself. Again. What games were you trading in that got you $4? I really hope they were not new ones because you got ripped off yourself and that’s nobody else’s fault but yours lol
Matthew Larsen again, whiney people don’t like my opinion, guess what you didn’t have to respond to it but apparently it triggered some kind of butthurt because I think the business is a ripoff. Sorry ladies.
Mike Josephson lol I didn’t get ripped off by them guess that leaves you butthurt. I don’t really care i honestly find it funny that this is what people bitch about. I came here to laugh
Have a nice night and hope you and your family have a happy holiday season
Matthew Larsen ok how does saying “is it really a loss” being butthurt exactly? You came here to laugh, oddly enough you just comment, and comment and comment…I’m not sure you understand what laughing is.
Michael Touli no wasn’t me. I haven’t played video games regularly in years. My daughter used to,my Xbox one sits here collecting dust. Heaven forbid people have different opinions that random people don’t like. I don’t know how the shithole made it this far. Enjoy shopping for games while you can.. they’ll be gone soon enough.
Mike Josephson laughing Jesus, you’re right what the fuck is that. I commented on the business aspect becuase why the not try and resell shit games no one wants after the fact. Still a market, rip off or not someone is buying. Butthurt suckers.
Matthew Larsen ok so being as I haven’t played games in years how can I be a butthurt sucker? Your business aspect was spot on too..lmfao.
Who cares ppl need to stop sitting around playing games. Dumbing down of society
Mark Zambella It’s too late for that.
Agreed but too late lol
Mark, pretty judgmental. Of all the things “dumbing down society,” I’m pretty sure video games are low on that list.
Social media however…
Marco Dom Inick no ppl all that they do is gaming…enough
Mark…what?
Mark Zambella I feel like you played a lot of video games yourself…
Mel Groomes show your MAns
They should raise the prices on the new systems. Everyone else is lol
See you in Blockbuster heaven. ????
This is what the Democrats want, close all business and want us to rely on them and the Chinese. Sick people
Michelle Nelson orrr maybe it’s because they are expensive (not many games on sale) and you can buy games digitally now- you don’t need the hard copies anymore.
Michelle Nelson Lol. Do you even hear yourself. It’s the progression of technology. In fact, more games are being sold now than ever before. Democrats dont want businesses to close. Jesus Christ, you sound like a cult follower. Just repeating dumb shit you hear.
Michelle Nelson this has nothing to do with politics. Unsustainable business model. They were going through bankruptcy pre-Covid.
Michelle Nelson gamestop was in trouble long before the lock downs.

This is going to become more and more common. Those companies that can are doing online ordering
The one in Waretown is never busy. GNC just closed. Dunkin is moving… rheem they’ll never have customers ????
So many stores around here have closed up this yr.
Sharon Lynn Huber I shop there. Great employees, very helpful. I’ll be sad if that one closes.
Sharon Lynn Huber I’d be ok if they moved in SR plaza in Lacey.
Damn another company. The federal government needs to step up and save these businesses
Lisa Martin not this one.
Lisa Martin GameStop business model has been outdated long before the pandemic. It is sad to see it go as I love seeing all the game. Not surprising at all from a business standpoint.
Terrible!
Get your PS5 now ????????????

Truth be told their closure has little to do with Covid, it’s their sales model. It’s been a running joke for years that selling a roomful of games will net you less than $10 at Gamestop, they’re notorious for ripping people off hardcore. And why go to Gamestop and buy a physical copy of a game when you can download it on your computer or Xbox in less than the time it takes you to drive to the store, wait in line, and get back? Especially on PC.
Consoles having their own stores and other online retailers offering digital versions of games killed the physical copy market (with the exception of Collector’s Editions, which are often purchased from companies themselves). It’s Blockbuster all over again- they just never changed with the times and the old style of vending games isn’t very convenient anymore.
I’m an avid gamer and haven’t set foot in a Gamestop in many years. I buy digital either from the company itself, a verified platform (Steam, Epic Games Launcher, GOG), or if I really want a physical copy I get one from Amazon.
Jason Michael
It sucks so many stores are going out! No one goes to game stores everyone just buys them right on the console.
Veronica Garofalo
Tragedy for vidioits and couch potatoes.
I wonder why. They are swamped with business
