Earlier today our Esteemed Governor Murphy issued this post regarding the actions of one bar in Bergen County. Knuckleheads, masks, and all the books thrown at the owners. Murphy’s words are taken below:
This is Portobello, an outdoor bar in Bergen County, last Wednesday.
No masks. No social distancing. No personal responsibility.
The owners were cited for noncompliance, and municipal officials revoked their outdoor dining permits after 4:00 PM for the next 30 days. Good.
Across the state, there are hundreds of restaurant owners who are playing by the rules.
Outlier owners who think the rules don’t apply to them give the good and hard-working restauranteurs across NJ a black eye.
We will not tolerate knucklehead behavior that puts people at risk.
He thinks he’s making them look bad, when in actuality, he’s made those of us who are starving for interaction, fun, normalcy and all of the other things that we’ve been deprived of want to frequent them even if they’re well out of our way (not to mention, as an F-U to dear old Gov. Snaggletooth).

I applaud your approach because of yiur husband, you guys have issues so you stay home. Whats wrong with that? Why cant people who are at risk just stay home like you and lets everyone else who doesnt want to live in fear, go on and live their lives? I love all the people here who put a “laughing emoji” on certain comments. Can’t keep count of how many people who have thought this is all a funny joke only to humbly retract their careless and selfish thoughts and behaviors because they either have had a bad case of COVID themselves or have lost a loved one to COVID. That being said, can’t for the life of me figure out why serious consequences are not given to those who selfishly and deliberately put others at harm. And…..let the idiot replies begin.

Nicole Quinn amazing right? But hardly anyone is dying from the flu anymore. How does your comment coincide with the 99.97 survival rate? It doesn’t . They’ve inflated the numbers to get more funding for the hospitals. Not to mention people in this country are already disgustingly unhealthy. I remember as a kid McDonald’s was a treat. Now it’s a way of life. Our immune systems are weaker than ever. Don’t get me wrong, I use caution, especially around others but I’m not being a sheep either.
Tom Ullery I know extremely healthy people who have gotten it and are suffering long term, life altering effects. And amazingly, covid preventative measures help prevent the flu too. Not to mention, it was the end of flu season last year and it’s barely started this year. Stop believing conspiracy theories and talk to some people who are really on the front lines.
Also, as more people get it, the hospitals can become overwhelmed and they won’t be able to help some people. More people will die without getting medical attention.
Nicole Quinn yeah I’ve spoken to nurses and doctors who believe what you call conspiracy theories. A mom mount county nurse told us they hadn’t had a case in 2 months but the media was claims our cases were drastically rising

Nicole Quinn I’m not saying there’s no virus and I know it’s fairly contagious compared to flu but I do believe they’re trying to keep us scared. Some people have horrible reactions to the flu. Everyone is different. I honestly feel peoples immune systems have gotten bad with diet over the years. Can’t have a strong immune system living on fast food.
Tom Ullery but some people don’t eat fast food and still got very sick and died, or even live with long term effects. There are marathon runners who can no longer run. It’s more contagious than the flu. And most of the people who do have bad reactions to the flu are the ones who did not vaccinate for it. We still have more deaths in covid this year than the flu in 5. I just wish everyone would do the right thing- it’s really terrible that a virus has become so political. This is about lives. Everything that can’t open up fully would be able to have higher capacities if we could just work together. Stay safe and healthy.
Nicole Quinn I agree with most of that. The political part is aggravating. And the inconsistencies. Closing restaurants again and again but Walmart’s, Lowe’s, Home Depot’s are packed with people. 2 more Applebee’s just shut down here. People are losing their livelihoods.
Tom Ullery also, I just want to say, I appreciate the friendly debate. Oftentimes, these conversations turn into nasty name calling matches. And sadly, some of these places were in bad shape before the pandemic. I live in Brick and the Charlie Browns in Silverton won’t be reopening. People blame the pandemic, when whenever I drove past there taking my son to and from karate on Friday nights, the lot wasn’t even close to full. It doesn’t make it any less sad, of course. And I go to all of those stores at 8am when they are basically empty. People still need to buy food and fix things.
