A Local family needs our help for their 5 month old daughter who was diagnosed with Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum (ACC).
I first met the DeAngelo family when Emily DeAngelo called me last December about some work they needed done. When I met her, she was one of the nicest, most thankful customers I had ever met. She and her husband Mike had a 6 month old baby girl and we’re happily expecting their second child.
Fast Forward to a few weeks ago, she called me again for another roof issue.
Upon meeting with Emily, she told me their 5 month old baby girl Giuliana, “Gigi”, was diagnosed with ACC. ACC is a rare illness that affects 1 in 10,000 people. The effects can range from mild to severe and can be very debilitating to the child. Gigi does not have a normal functioning brain. With ACC, a person does not have a corpus callosum which separates the left and right brain, helping both sides to work together. This illness can cause seizures, hearing loss, loss of sight, poor muscle tone, and poor coordination. Gigi also has to undergo surgery next week so that the doctors can figure out if she has Hydrocephalus, another possible illness she may suffer from. If Gigi does have Hydrocephalus, she will undergo brain surgery immediately.
Since this came to light, Gigi and her family have been to many Dr. visits and have many more in their future. Gigi has many doctors such as a Neurologist, Neurosurgon, Cardiologist, Audiologist, Pediatrician, as well as an OT, PT, and future Speech Pathologist. This is just the beginning to help Gigi live a life like the other little children her age.
On top of the DeAngelo’s Baby Gigi struggling with this illness at only 5 months old, Emily and Mike have a 16 month old and are expecting a 3rd child.
I know firsthand how great our community is when someone is in a time of need and we are asking for your help.
Three local business in this community, owned by men who I am proud to say are my friends, immediately wanted to help the DeAngelo’s take some of the financial burdens off their shoulders. Ray, Chris, and Jay are good hearted, outstanding giving members of this community we all live in. They will always lend a helping hand for the children.
