Toms River: New Jersey-based home goods retailer Bed Bath & Beyond announced earlier they were closing up to 200 stores nationwide as a result of slumping sales. All 200 stores would be closed over the next two years, with COVID-19 taking much of the blame- along with shifting customer shopping patterns. The first set of stores listed resulted in 63 locations to be closed by the end of 2020. Initially only Howell and Rockaway stores were reported to close here in New Jersey. OCSN has recently discovered that the Toms River, NJ store at 1240 Hooper Avenue has now been designated to close. A real estate listing has surfaced on 10/09/2020 announcing that the 34,000 SF retail building will be available for purchase in January 2021. Bed Bath & Beyond has recently completed a total overhaul/remodel of their Brick, NJ location to showcase the future of the company’s stores. It is assumed that the spanking-new Brick store will serve customers once Toms River goes dark.
This Toms River building dates back to one of the original retail stores on Hooper Avenue when the Ocean County Mall was built. Originally built as a BEST Catalog Showroom, that company would close all stores by 1998. After BEST, Linens N Things would relocate their store from a smaller parcel in the plaza down to the larger vacant space. NJ-based Linens N Things would also go bankrupt and shutter all their physical stores by 2008. Bed Bath & Beyond opened their current store shortly after Linens vacated and a brief period of remodeling the space. Now with COVID-19 claiming more retail victims seemingly each day it appears, customers will have to find another place to use their expired 20% off coupons.

Jordyn Lynn Monica well I hope that means some good sales… I need to redecorate the living room!
Krystal L Boyer
Giovanna Kamariotakis this is so sad!!!!
So that means SALE????
Don’t rush there just yet. It’s only 20% off, same as if you used coupons, which they are no longer accepting
Beverly Reilly Ombres thanks lol they are so over priced there
DeStefano Allison I agree. One of the reasons they are losing business I would think. I rarely went there except for the Harmon products and Kcups. With the 20% coupons it was a deal. Otherwise, too pricey
Beverly Reilly Ombres right if I found something I liked I would find it else where cheaper lol
Truly…I couldn’t find anything in this store before covid-19…
Yvonne Logan Chin ☠️☹️

Can we petition for a grocery store here? Whole Foods & Wegmans have snubbed Ocean County off- but maybe we can lure Lidl?
Ocean County Scanner News wegmans!!!
Marlo Coddington- Lutz
Only in our dreams sadly.
Ocean County Scanner News sorry but really hate Lidl.
Lidl sucks! Lol…Whole foods or Wegmans would be awesome
Shelley Schechtman
We toured Lidl when it opened in Lacey and were fairly impressed. A WF or Wegmans would be stellar- but not reality. Lidl is the best we can hope for before another Dollar General grabs it.
Ocean County Scanner News Wegmans Yes! Lidl is just like Aldi. Whole Foods just too pricey.
Ocean County Scanner News what’s the reason for wegmans not coming to ocean county? I hate having to drive all the way to Ocean township!
Samantha Henry median income is too low
Ocean County Scanner News don’t quote me but supposedly we don’t have enough money in Ocean County.
Ocean County Scanner News please, not another Dollar store ????
Samantha Henry
Wegmans already went on record saying just that- Ocean County’s median income and demographics don’t interest them.
Ocean County Scanner News WHICH PRETTY MUCH MEANS WE’RE WHITE TRASH ????????
Quite insulting don’t you think!
Ocean County Scanner News Trader Joe’s would be nice.
Edie Elizabeth Traders Joe’s is in the next town over. It would be great but again, the demographics just doesn’t fit.
Ocean County Scanner News Lidl is like Aldi’s. Why would you want that.
That plaza is really taking a beating the last few years
Ocean County Scanner News I would love a Fairway
Lidl is opening in brick by Buffalo wild wings.
Michele Elizabeth it’s because of the large senior population, on a fixed income
Ocean County Scanner News you won’t never see a Wegmans. They were one of my customers and frequently spoke to upper mgmt As I was in the food industry for along time and when they
Go to expand they have strict demographics. If you notice they are in rich areas. Cherry Hill, Ocean Twp, Marlboro, etc. I have said I believe the only town in ocean county I ever see a Wegmans would be Manahawkin. Lidl is going up the road in Brick, unsure they would put one that close. Whole Foods, that could be a possibility.
Edie Elizabeth there is one in Brick Plaza
Pamela Zboray lol. You people are funny. It’s the demographics of the area. You’re never getting whole foods or wegmans . That’s why places like Lidl’s go up
Ocean County Scanner News Trader Joe’s please
Linda Musco they go where the money is .
Was there this past weekend. Everything 20-40% off. Can’t use any coupons and everything is final sale. You can’t return anything to any other locations. (Something about the company that owns them was sold, but I can’t remember correctly).
Stacie Christine
The parent company recently sold off Christmas Tree Shops to another buyer.
Ocean County Scanner News Thanks for the clarification!
Stacie Christine if you have their yearly membership then you can add 20% additional off. It’s called Beyond Perks

Jen Riccio recruit
Peggy Fackina lol most are getting transferred and you know who was all over that lol
Jen Riccio haha
When you artificially close down the whole state for 7 months, things close, for sure.
John Coluccio there are 200 stores closing. Only 2 of them are in NJ. You can’t put the blame NJ for that.
John Coluccio Bed bath and beyond has been at risk for a long time. Their pricing is no longer competitive and their retail strategy is obsolete in the digital/social media age.
John Coluccio can’t we all just get a tomato pie in Trenton?????
Now youre talking !
You are right. I stand corrected. I blame every state engaged in these shutdowns.
John Coluccio they were on the road to closure before Covid.
Nicki Ann Cordi Gianna Gatto
Meagan Marie Pitta

Funny thing, I received an email from Bed, Bath & Beyond that many of there stores were closing including the Toms River store. The next day I received another email from them and a coupon, apologizing that the Toms River store isn’t closing.
Ann Murphy I saw signs TR was hiring last week
Ann Murphy I got the same email
I think something for the kids should go there . Like a roller skating rink or something.
Maybe if their prices weren’t so high
Anne Connors ???????????????? you better go with all your coupons before they close!
Antoinette Cioffi-Haines
Theyre not taking coupons anymore if its on sale already. There inventory has seemed low lately. Now this all makes sense ????

Sandi Riccio Healy best store!!! We just got one in Cherry hill!!
Before we ever heard of Covid I got frustrated with asking for an item I couldn’t find while IN the STORE, to have an employee tell me, “we don’t carry that in the store anymore, but you can get it online”. BB&B caused their own issues.
Kris Davis ugh! We are going to have to go in before it closes????
Dana…..nooooooooo
I’m sure Jeff Bezos is thrilled.
