Kevin O Neill I agree that paper ballots are susceptible to fraud and even just plain mismanagement without fraud. What is the alternative? Because voting in person is subject to same shortcomings.

Voting machine contain hard drives that are downloaded and that information is subject to manipulation just like any data. Nothing electronic is foolproof. Wonder how many times data has been corrupted and not included? It’s bound to have happened. Nothing is foolproof.
Some places like Florida had paper ballots that caused issues in prior elections. Not all states/locales have voting machines.
George Allen I can throw out all the paper ballots with ease. I would not be able to remove votes from a tape that I have to turn in at the end of the tally. So there is that.

I am an auditor, and part of my job was to think of ways to circumvent controls for financial transactions. Do you know how often data is stored in plain readable text? Why do you think credit card data gets stolen so often, because of lax security. One of the sewerage authorities I audited had separate software for reading meters and billing. They would transfer info from one to the other. And you could just go in and change information and no one would know.
George Allen I leave the poll at 900. 10 minutes later the tape is handed in. The envelope is sealed and witnessed by the team of two dem and two Republicans from each group. We witnesses each voter. Time and signature. The number of votes. The tape is sealed its self as well as all date provisional and handicap votes. Sealed. No time or ability to tamper with any of it. That tape is then handed to the person who uploads that data to server. Machine fraud is .0000001.

George Allen no. There is one tape per machine per the day of voting. It is zeroed when we arrive at 530 am. Then sealed 10 minutes prior go handing in. No chance at onsite manipulation.
There is no connection from the server to the machines. They are independent from each other. And the tapes are sealed in a sealed envelope
