Lisa Arendt the Salvation Army offers rehab at no cost. The catch is you have to work for them while you are there. Most addicts won’t take advantage of it though cause it means they have to put in what they take out.
Salvation army rehab is bullshit.. I have to go to a real rehab before you can even go there. After that it’s basically a place to stay as long as you work for them and do what theysay

It’s definitely not an easy thing to overcome. It has taken me 10 years to get clean. Been an up and down battle. I wish it was as easy as just getting in a rehab and being cured… But it doesn’t work that way

An addict can go through rehab 30 times because families and courts force it and it will not work.
Each addict must hit a personal rock bottom for some its Monday morning being to hung over for work for another person it could be worse than getting high with 3 friends and being the only one to live (yes it has happened! Took that addict another 2 yrs to hit rock bottom)
No one knows the pain and hopelessness that keeps an addict going. You don’t know and can not judge an addicts pain.
I thank God 35 yrs ago when i was using there was nothing like FB to make me feel even worse with everyone Judging. I thank God I got clean and stay that way but i don’t forget the pain and suffering of addiction

James Higgins rehab doesn’t last a year and a year in jail would cost the taxpayer thousands. Times that by the thousands of drug abusers and you would have to build jails for them. Community service is where the town gets free labor and the patient gets some form a stability in working. Even that won’t work completely because they will refuse to work but for those that want to stop they can start there. The main thing is narcan is just enabling and a very low percentage see it as a wake up call.

I don’t think people understand that WE understand the damage we did, and that we feel horrible about the things we’ve done. Those of us who live to get clean get an opportunity to repair the harm that we’ve caused by living differently and making the necessary amends. But that can’t happen if they don’t even live long enough to stay clean. It just makes me sad that there are people here who advocate for “letting them die” and say shit like “natural selection” over wanting to see them get clean and do better. I dunno.

It’s not funny but it’s very frustrating. Especially considering Narcan is given so freely. I personally know a couple of addicts who think they can run like hell because they have narcan on them. The majority of them think of it as a way out if they mess up. Therefore you’re not solving a problem, you’re just creating another one and one that is financially draining on a state like this is.
