Lacey: Earlier this morning we posted a story about a crash on CR 539 near MP 19.5. It involved a car and a dump truck which collided in the roadway. A fire broke out once the vehicles collided, and both vehicles were burning at some point. Estimated 50-60 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the roadway, along with debris scattered all across the road.
CR 539 is closed in both directions- and will likely be for some time. Based on what we’re hearing, the vehicle driver died in the accident, but nothing has been confirmed as of this writing. We will update the story when an official statement is made.
As always, stay alert and slow down. Use caution if you need to travel this way currently.

Don’t automatically assume it was the trucks fault. That time of the morning, very dark, no road illumination. Maybe the auto driver fell asleep at the wheel. Maybe he swerved around a deer. The same is possible for the truck driver. Don’t automatically assume it’s the trucks fault. They do the same thing everyday, at real early hours. Just sayin.
Robert Zawada I travel 539 frequently and yes, some truck drivers barrel along, but it’s mostly the cars that pass improperly. Pass 4 to 5 cars and pass in a no passing zone. For some reason, they have to be the first car in the line.
That road is one the worst state wide for accidents. The local PD’s got together on multiple occasions for enforcement and the state modified several turns, but the commuters still speed and take chances. People have no clue regarding trucks, they think they handle like a car. ????

Most truck driving “accidents ” are caused by people in cars who think we can maneuver like they can. I can’t count how many times I’ve been cut off or brake checked because of idiots in cars.

Ocean County Scanner News Not sure about that. 4 lanes on RT 70 just caused more problems. It probably all depends on the road and who uses it. Any main road used by commuters is a problem, another example is the GSP. It is amazing what some folks do on their way to work.

Janie Vassallo SanGiacomo as an update. With the police reports coming in, it appthat the car was at fault in the accident. Passing multiple times at high rate of speeds. The car did not move back to the north bound lane after another pass and struck the dump truck head on. An out of state driver who was unfamiliar with the road and driving reckless. Next time don’t be so quick to judge. Please keep your eyes open for motorcycle riders.
Mark Altman I talked to someone today who was there the girl driving the car was driving at a excessive speed and hit the truck. Sad way to go she was trapped in the car. I pray for her and her family. I pray for that truck driver who has to live with this, people are driving way to fast anymore, a treble Price to play.

Those dump trucks fly down the road without any concern for unexpected situations like an old person pulling out in front of them . When you are loaded you aren’t stopping that truck like you would a car .

Drove the length of 72 round about 7 this morning and 539 was closed heading N of 72. I was wondering what happened. Closed on my way home at 5 also.
Seem the truck today on my way home! Hear it on the fire radio all morning. Condolences to the female driver but I can say from the many accidents I’ve seen in my past l, this driver wasn’t at fault and the damage done to the burnt up engine bay was def a head on.
Another article already said the lexus drove north in the southbound lane and slammed into the truck. The woman driving the lexus was seen speeding to pass cars. So many people do this when on these roads and they get what a car ahead? Not worth the risk.
It was approaching MP19.5 near the painted rock, which is a no passing zone northbound and at the crest of a hill. The PR should have the details.
