A Statement from the Asbury Park Mayor and City Council – 8/22/20
As is being reported, we can confirm there was an officer‐involved shooting that took place last night in the area of Fourth Avenue and Memorial Drive. While we currently do not have any other details, we do know several Asbury Park Police Officers responded to a situation that ultimately resulted in the use of lethal force.
The Office of the Attorney General of New Jersey has taken the lead on an independent and objective investigation, with the assistance of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. As the investigation proceeds, more information will be provided to the public by their offices.
We are saddened to hear of any loss of life in our community and await more details from the investigation.
