PRESS RELEASE
On July 24, 2020 at approximately 1205 hours Officer Karl Eiker initiated a motor vehicle stop on a 2012 white BMW, operated by Kevon Belfon, of Staten Island, NY. While traveling west on Route 72, Officer Eiker observed the vehicle being driven erratically, crossing the center painted line of Route 72 into the path of oncoming traffic.

Shortly after the stop, Belfon was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. Additional investigation after the arrest of Belfon led to the recovery of a loaded handgun with a large capacity magazine, several fraudulent New Jersey and New York identifications depicting Belfron’s image, a quantity of marijuana, a digital scale as well as an open container of alcohol. A passenger, Christie Martinez, of Ridgewood, NY, was also placed under arrest.

Belfron was charged with possession of a firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of fraudulent government identification, hindering apprehension, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses. Belfron was lodged in Ocean County Jail, investigation pending.

Christie Martinez was charged with possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and released pending a future court appearance.

Officer Eiker was the arresting Officer, assisted by members of the Stafford Township Drug Enforcement Unit and Stafford Township Detective Bureau.

The Stafford Township Police Department does not release photos of defendants, and the public and the press are reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
