The NFL is planning to make a huge statement when the season kicks off … with the league reportedly deciding to play the Black National Anthem before every Week 1 game.
“Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing” — which is often referred to as the Black National Anthem — will be played before the ‘Star-Spangled Banner’ prior to every game in the first week of the season, according to ESPN.
It was originally written as a poem by African-American civil rights leader James Weldon Johnson in 1899 — and later set to music by his brother John Rosamond Johnson.
It was first performed in public as part of a celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday on February 12, 1900, according to the NAACP.
Several NBA teams have played the song during Black History Month over the years — and Beyonce famously performed part of it during her iconic Coachella performance in 2018.
Of course, Roger Goodell recently apologized for the way the league handled the Colin Kaepernick-led anthem protests … and vowed to help spread awareness for the Black Lives Matter movement.
Along with making a statement against racism, the league also vowed to donate $250 million to social justice organizations.
The NFL is also considering adding names of victims of police brutality to uniforms with helmet decals or jersey patches.
As for the anthem protests … huge names like Adrian Peterson, Baker Mayfield and Bill O’Brien have already made it clear they will kneel.

Considering Francis Scott Key penned the poem in 1814 (well before the Civil War, Emancipation Proclamation, & Juneteenth), and the poem itself wasn’t set to music until the 1930’s (& the Civil Rights movement wasn’t for another 30 years after that) it makes perfect sense that there is a Black National Anthem. Go refill your drink when it plays if you’re that offended. Or maybe listen to it and reflect on our history and try to do better in the future.

No, I haven’t been living under a rock or any other place where u might not hear news. I have not heard of a Black Natl Anthem until reading this post nor am I familiar w/the song “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing. There is a Natl Anthem and it covers EVERY nationality, every race, color, religion. Last I knew there were no exclusions.
There are other nationalities that have felt they were discriminated against but have not protested, rioted, burned, looted, their neighborhoods and businesses all the while demanding equality. They have also lost family members to police actions but didn’t set P.D. vehicles on fire or overturned them. They haven’t thrown Molotov cocktails at the police.
There are too many young kids being kidnapped or coerced into leaving their home countries being brought to the US (and prob other countries as well) to work in sweatshops, for sexual perverts, for household servants and any other “positions” they have the need to fill.
I’ve never heard “Latino Lives Matter or Asian Lives Matter”.
People, take responsibility for your own actions, you’re not the only one living on your street, in your neighborhood, in your city. Help to make things better for all not just a few.

They were the “Orange Men” and my cousin who attended there was the Indian chief that was at the games.
