FB Page of Mayor Paul Kanitra: As the busy Fourth of July weekend approaches, I wanted to update everyone about the measures the Borough of Point Pleasant Beach continues to put in place to stem the recent tide of disrespectful behavior.

  • Last weekend we implemented Saturday and Sunday Code Enforcement for the first time in almost a decade. A new weekend code enforcement official along with a Class 1 officer will be patrolling neighborhoods to enforce quality of life violations across town.
  • An ordinance is currently being drafted to ban the playing of loud, disruptive music on the beach and boardwalk.
  • Cooler restrictions are being put in place that lower the maximum size to help combat the recent surge of public drinking and littering.
  • The Department of Public Works is in the process of filling two vacancies to bring them back to full staff so that they can focus on trash in the streets and keeping the town clean.
  • Finally, and most importantly, we are bringing on 2 new officers in the Police Department. With some senior level staff in the process of retiring, we have the ability to both replace them and bring on necessary additional ones for roughly the same budget levels. This measure will bring us back to a full 24-person department, which we last had in 2011. With the changing environment here in town, it is vital that we have the resources at our disposal to properly enforce our borough ordinances.

So far this year, with the boardwalk and beaches having been closed through Memorial Day weekend, our officers have nonetheless written almost twice the number of violation tickets as 2019. With the zero tolerance policies we’ve enacted and these new officers at our disposal, we feel strongly that we will be able to change the recent course of events and maintain the family friendly atmosphere we all know and love.

Have a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July weekend!
