EAST BRUNSWICK, New Jersey (WABC) — Friends, family and neighbors are devastated after three people, including a child, were found dead in a pool in Middlesex County on Monday afternoon.
The incident was reported just after 4 p.m. on Clearview Road.
Police say the three victims drowned in the pool. They are an 8-year-old girl, her 32-year-old mother and her 62-year-old grandfather.

The call came to the police department from a neighbor who heard screaming in the backyard. She thought someone had fallen, but when police got to the house, all three people were dead in the pool.
Authorities called an electrical contractor to the home and sources say they believe there may have been an electrical issue in or near the pool that led to the deaths.
Police have not confirmed that theory.
“This is a devastating day for our entire community. It is too early to determine exactly what happened. We are working with the Middlesex County Prosecutors office and will release information as it develops,” East Brunswick Police Chief Frank Losacco said.
Other family members were said to be inside at the time of the incident.
The family had just moved in last May but were said to be friendly and outgoing.
Few other details were released but the investigation is ongoing.

They just moved in two weeks ago. So sad ????
So sad
Prayers and deepest sympathies to the family.
Terrible…condolences to the family
Electrical? Very sad
Tee Rod unfortunately this has happened before but a lot of people don’t know that it can happen in the pool. It’s very sad
Brianna N Ryan Tufaro very sad i hope they find the cause. I have a pool it concerns me.
Tee Rod yea I have a pool too. I think it has to do with the pool light. That’s the only electrical thing I can think of to cause this issue. Thankfully I don’t have one in pool if that’s the cause
Brianna N Ryan Tufaro very sad thank you for the update.
it also can be that the pool was “bonded” properly, pump wasn’t grounded, most above gound pools don’t have pool lights.
Brianna N Ryan Tufaro they believe it was due to wiring in filter
Ocean County Scanner News thank you. I didn’t know if other wiring could of caused the issue. So thank you for the uodate
Mark Cooper I didn’t know it was a above ground pool. I must have missed that part. Thank you
and how many pools went up this summer without a permit? or an inspection
Wow electrical
Horrible.
That is horrible. So sad for this family. Rest in peace
very sad
Heartbreaking???? May they REST IN ETERNAL PEACE
????????????????????????
Pamela Seeger-Queen
Just moved in!!! Where is the CO/ Inspection ? In nj pools need to be grounded. So very sad. Unacceptable
Paul Cobra My thoughts exactly.
Paul Cobra bonded. Equa-potential plane bonding.
So sad ????
Joe Fowler
I find it hard to believe that 3 people drowned
Definitely if you get electrocuted first. Very sad
Tra Barone suspected to be electrocution (in article)
Ocean County Scanner News ya I had heard that since yesterday but the first the cops to say drowning doesn’t add up
Laurie Ann well ya but cops said drowning and I don’t eve live that
Laurie Ann well yes.
On 101.5 they said the mother saw the daughter in the pool laying there and screamed and asked someone to call 911. Mother and another relative then died too – they didnt say but I would guess mother and the other relative in his 60’s jumped in to get her out. That is what they think it was electrical.
This type of thing has happened before too, even in lakes where a metal ladder conducts. Worse, sometimes you can check your circuits and everything is fine, but something happens upstream and charges the ground. How horrible.
I just read they had an electrician at the house. It was said they were NOT electrocuted
Omg that’s so scary.. Jesse Roloff
Wow electrocuted so so sad. Praying
For the family
do the temporary pools like summer waves and intex need to be grounded or only those bigger permanent pools? this is so sad!
Christina Abdulfayzov good question
Christina Abdulfayzov thats a very good question we just put up our intex pool & salt filter in the beginning of the month & now im a little freaked out…this is such a terrible sad tragedy my heart breaks for this family ????
Holli-Linn Pierce there is a electric alert you can leave in the pool, if it detects a current an alarm sounds, it’s worth it!
Lucia D’Ambrosio thankk you soo much !! im going to look into that right now !!
Lucia D’Ambrosio its like a smoke alarm. If it goes off, its too late.
Ok, to answer this question. You have a large body of water thats directly connected to electricity. Do you think its a good idea to have it grounded and have a ground fault interrupt circuit? Let me answer that for you. Yes
Lou Amato no, it monitors 24/7 if it goes off you don’t go in the pool.
Lucia D’Ambrosio so, there’s no chance at all of an electrocution happening once in the pool? Like, electricity stops and has a conscious and says ” gee there’s people, I better shut myself off while people are around”?
Well if you’re that worried, shut the filter down before going in. Turn it back on when you’re done. Very simple
Jeff Bacon Jr. that’s typically what we do anyway but theres times my kids just jump in before i go out to turn it off
GFCI electrical outlets, and timers that power down the pump during the daytime so there is no source during daytime usage. I have intex and use that method, and make sure nothing electrical touches the ground or pool, just the pump.
Lou Amato Run the pump at night when there is no one around. The electrical fault is very rare, but can’t be too careful.
Look I was answering the OPs question of does a temporary need grounding. I have 30 years electrical and common sense. This does not need to go on. However, in the case of stray voltage. Only God can answer that question.
Christina Abdulfayzov never swim in the pool while the pump is running in these temporary/soft sided pools. Most people don’t have an electrician come and hardwire the pump or run a grounding wire around the base of the pool.
So very sad, prayers and condolences to the family
Something seems a little fishy, other family was in home, neighbor heard screams and called, so.ething dont add up
perhaps the neighbor was outside in their own backyard. perhaps the mother jumped in after her child
So tragic. RIP
Omg it’s horrible ????????
Horrible
Something a little shady here 3 people drowned together?
Donna McEachran suspected electrocution (in article)
Ocean County Scanner News electrocuted bodies are not hard to identify as a cause.. Personal experience.. Seems odd!!????
read the article
Alice Seaglass I started to then got a call
Not too far fetched.
Child goes into pool. Gets electrocuted.
Mom starts screaming,
The parents don’t know what’s happening, they jump into pool to save their child, and all three end up being killed.
Rick Delmont This makes the most sense. I’m very saddened by this and didn’t think about this scenario. Makes sense.
Rest in peace.
So tragic! My condolences and prayers to the family????????❤️
So sad
So sad. Rip

Wow, thats a shame.
They never said it was electrical they are waiting for autopsy to be done …….I know a neighbor to them and also said they called an electrician to do a check since police and fire only do so much.. so please dont assume until a full report is out…….
Sandra Leary definitely was a wake up call though with my own pool. Sad situation though whatever happened to them. :'(
Sandra Leary an electrician showed up while police were investigating…
Apparently an appointment.
So sounds electrical to me.
Cheryl Lynn omg
Very tragic. It is so essential to have a pool installed by a reputable livened installer and licensed plumbers and electricians. Proper permits and inspections as well
So so sad
Omg how terrible. It certainly sounds like an electrical issue. Unfortunately isn’t the first time I heard of something like this happening. Very sad.

Cody Fields. Check your wiring.
Tracy Mark

Insanely sad

Condolences and prayers to the family ????❤️
NOT ELECTRICITY RELATED
Thomas McMurray Proof?
How do three people drown in the pool all at the same time ??? This story makes no sense. It was an above ground pool not roaring rapids.
Judi Dodd said it appeared to be an electrical issue near or in the pool. Waiting for autopsy to determine COD.
Saw this on the news last night. So sad..This poor family. ????
Middlesex prosecutors office released statement all 3 deaths are not electricity related.
Very sad
