Neptune: As taken this afternoon, the Walmart on N.J. 66 @ Jumping Brook is closed. All the doors are locked and boarded up. A small white sign states the store is closed and will reopen tomorrow at 06:00 AM. Also noted is how the Wawa a little down NJ 66 East of this Walmart is also closed for the evening.

The precautions are being taken because of the planned protests tonight in neighboring Asbury Park. Asbury Park has enacted a curfew for residents tonight and posted a message on their Facebook page. If you’re aware of any other stores in the area are closing early and/or preparing please send us photos.

The following was posted on Asbury Park’s website earlier today:

A message from Mayor & Council re tonight’s protest:

We are expecting a peaceful protest tonight at 801 Bangs Avenue in support of social justice and police accountability.

The City of Asbury Park, its Mayor and Council, and the Asbury Park Police Department stand in full solidarity with the Asbury Park community in promotion of a peaceful demonstration and denounce the actions of the officers involved in the murder of George Floyd and any acts of police misconduct.

To protect the safety of the organizers and attendees of the protest, and our residents, a curfew is imposed for the City of Asbury Park beginning at 8pm Monday 6/1/20 through 5am Tuesday 6/2/20.
