Casual dining chain Ruby Tuesday has decided to close three area restaurants. The chain is distinctive for its’ salad bar, which has almost died off in today’s restaurants. Ruby Tuesday has been closing stores periodically for the last few years now, but the company decided to close 95 stores amid the Coronavirus pandemic.
As per the Ruby Tuesday website, only the Toms River (NJ 37 West) and Monmouth Mall locations are listed. Phones went unanswered and the following locations were removed from the corporate website. NJ 66 in Neptune, Freehold Raceway Mall, and NJ 70 in Lakewood on the Brick border.
According to the website and the Facebook page, a few more NJ Ruby Tuesday’s closed this week. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, many restaurants are struggling as their dining rooms remain closed.
This is yet another blow for Freehold Raceway Mall which is losing Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor.

Lindsay N Jon Ipock well that sux
Feel sad I used to go there in Eatontown nj when I can
Daniel Hull are you related to the Hulls that lived on South Ave in Atlantic Highlands?
My neighbor used to work at the surviving one by Marquee Theater, at one point in time I was there almost every night eating free…Now she’s a High School teacher and I haven’t been to Ruby’s in over 5 years
Greg Bleeker eating for free??
So the one by Marquee is still open? Haven’t been there in so long
Nikki Kaitlyn yes it is!
They should close that one on 37 ! Ate there and got sick, 2 other of my friend also ate there and got sick!! and the food sucked.
Murphy won’t be happy till he has 70% of Jersey on unemployment that’s a fact
Dammit. First Quaker Steak & Lube, now this. At the rate we’re going, it’s just a matter of time before Charlie Brown’s & every Chinese buffet in the area also close. This shutdown is putting all of my favorite eateries out of commission permanently. I have gift cards for a lot of these places, too. I guess they’re soon about to become worthless.
Michael De Fortuna I have heard charlie browns on hooper ave is closed for good
Melissa Stefanik-Martinez
I hope not- please get us a picture if true.
Melissa Stefanik-Martinez Silverton next to the firehouse?
Jennifer Sherman yes not 100% but I read it on either a Silverton page or toms river page on fb
Melissa Stefanik-Martinez hope not ????
Melissa Stefanik-Martinez it’s true, we know someone who worked there
Jennifer Sherman read above comment… it is closed for good.
Christina Timpone how sad, I tried to look on their FB page and it just said temporarily but that was back in March.. this was my favorite place! What a shame!
Jennifer Sherman I know, it sucks
Not surprised every time I drove by it no matter what time of day it was it was dead
Michael De Fortuna use the gift cards to order takeout or delivery from these places.
Elizabeth Catelli: I definitely plan on it. It’s not an option for any place that’s closed “until further notice” (i.e. Charlie Brown’s).
Michael De Fortuna is that the Charlie Brown’s in Toms River? I didn’t notice that one. I had heard about the Quaker steak & lube which kind of sucks a lot.
Elizabeth Catelli: I drive past three CB locations, and they’re all closed right now. According to the website, all of their locations are “temporarily closed”, and will presumably remain that way until the shutdowns are lifted. Hoping they will eventually reopen whenever this finally comes to an end.
Thanks Murphy
I believe the Eatontown site is still in operation.
Thank Murphy
All the shitty restaurants will be gone.
None of these places are closing becauae of Covid-19. They are closing because they suck. The quality of food and service has drastically declined and no one cares. The chains treat their staff like crap, and don’t value their employees or customers. Chain restaurants that are closing were well on their way out regardless of the current situation.
A bad chain restaurant in a mall is closing. I’ll take dying industries for $400 Alex.
Many of these crappy restaurants were just barely hanging on. The Covid -19 certainly IS the breaking point for them. Otherwise they may have survived.
Billie Morgan that’s untrue….as you said, they were barely hanging on FOR A REASON. Food and service are lousy, patronage dropped way off for a reason…if they wete gping to make it, they could have done so with take out. Many quality restaurants are actually thriving now. Some are.doimg MORE business than they cpuld accommodate if they were open. Any chain locations that closed wpuld have likely done so when their leases were up anyway.
Ruby Tuesday is not good IMO.
Garbage food.
So sorry to hear but looks like this will be a daily trend. Thanks Murphy for killing NJ how about helping them come back shutting everything expecting them to survive
Lakewood has been closed almost 2 months already
Debbie L. Rivas Meyer Brian Meyer we haven’t been there in a while but they are closing up the Toms River one
Goodbye Ruby Tuesday, who could hang a name on you?
They were on their way out anyway. The company’s been going under for years.
Exactly, stop blaming COVID for more stuff. These restaurants were going to close this year or next regardless.
I use their buy one get one free coupon at least 2x a week. They have good baby back ribs.????♂️
Frozen food and stale bread isn’t en vogue? Go figure
Ate at ruby tuesdays once and it was bad, never went back again.
Thanks Murphy
