I don’t understand. Why such a hard crack down on speeding? How is this even relevant to COVID-19?
There are a couple of reasons behind this. #1, making the officer possibly come in contact with someone that has the Coronavirus, and jeopardizing his health. And #2 by them making you go to court, it’s going to be a minimum of $500 by the time they’re done charging you with the speeding fine, and court costs. Basically making up for the money they’re not making for the officers that are not stopping people for violations…..

It has nothing to do with either. Right now the state is facing taxation short falls due to reduced sales tax revenue, and they are desperate for money. Traffic enforcement is nothing more then taxation/revenue generation, and mandatory court appearances net higher payouts. That’s all this is……….ca-ching!!!

It’s a money making thing. The judge will drop the charges just pay the court cost. There was a judge in Middletown who got caught doing this. He dropped all the cases and made everyone just pay the court cost.

To be honest I try to do the normal jersey speed limit. That being said I’m “essential” and drive my normal hours to and from work and I see less if any troopers on 295 and less local police too. Maybe it’s just me but it just seems like a deterrent so they can focus on using police forces for other more important things

This is exactly what I was worried about. As if there weren’t already enough leeches in Trenton looking for excuses to suck up money and make our lives even more difficult than they already were, this virus & shutdown seems like it’s only going to make this even worse. Trenton can look for ways to actually save money (start with pension reform, letting all the patronage hires go, cutting funding so school districts are forced to use money for education instead of administrative expenses, etc.), but they would rather keep finding ways to stick it to us.

I’m pretty sure you can just hire an attorney. I live in NJ and this happened when I received a speeding ticket in NC. Mandatory court appearance the day after my knee surgery. They wouldn’t change the date for me so I had to hire one. Definitely pricey, safer not to speed lol

I just drove back from upstate NY by Niagra falls for work today and didn’t see any police for literally 500 miles down 86,17,81,80,280,parkway back to my house. Parkway was pretty jammed up at 4PM north of the raritan compared to the last few weeks but it was moving. Way more cars on the road this week. Most cars cruising around.80-85 but def a lot of people doing triple digit speeds. I had a mustang and a Challenger doing highway pulls in front of me on i-81 in New York in broad daylight at like 12pm ????
