STORM ALERT
On April 21, 2020 Toms River experienced a powerful storm with rain, damaging wind and hail. At approximately 3:30PM it appears a tornado touched down in the area of Bay Avenue between Hooper Avenue and Vaughn Avenue. Over 100 calls were received regarding fallen trees on houses and cars, wires down, traffic signals out and destroyed property.
At this time, the Toms River Police Department is asking everyone to please stay clear of this area due to unsafe conditions. Please do not approach downed wires.

I know it was a tonado,but there calling it a stormnado.i just got in the house with coco.the sunroom windows were shaking and I’ve never experienced wind like I did at 3PM tuesday.

DeStefano Allison there’s alot of damage here kn toms river.i heard an inground pool came out of the ground.we have one,but thank god pool and cover with metal locks are fine.

Listen to all of you especially town workers and administrators who are downplaying this as a microburst, tropical storm or stormnado. This was a tornado no if ands or buts. This missed my house by 6 blocks and the friends I went to help described exactly what people in the midwest explain it as. It got really dark and sounded like a freight train was running through their backyards. Thank God its was all property damage and nobody was seriously hurt. I seen sidewalks ripped up, 30-50 ft Trees ripped out roots and all.. There was heavy jungle gyms moved 2 yards down and entire fences just picked up and taken away. I will definitely say that the firefighters, police, EMT and sheriffs dept., gas and electric company workers were there in no time very impressive how quickly they formed a plan and got on it.

It was not a tornado, more like straight line winds. We have lines down, trees and poles. A Shout out to JCP&l working from yesterday after this happened to getting the new pole installed and the all night until 3am getting the power on! Outstanding!
