New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) announced the closure of all county and state parks and forests, as the death toll from COVID-19 rises.
Murphy said the parks and forests were too often becoming gathering places where social distancing was not being observed.
With over 44,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, New Jersey has the second most in the country, behind only neighbor New York. More than 1,232 people in New Jersey have died from the disease, according to Murphy’s Tuesday press conference.
Murphy also extended New Jersey’s state of emergency by another 30 days.
New Jersey isn’t the first state to close its parks and forests. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) earlier on Tuesday closed all state parks and historic sites.
“The temporary closure of our state parks and historic sites will help us achieve this goal by preventing the gathering of large groups of people,” Abbott said in a statement.

Lynn Frappaolo genuine question. No sarcasm here. What does a shutdown mean to you? Is it closing every business except the hospital? Mandating people be inside their homes at all times? Closing the grocery store to the public and allowing only delivery? I only ask because I hear the word “shutdown” a lot. But if the only people allowed to work are hospital employees and no one else leaves home, people are gonna go broke, go crazy and starve. Bills don’t stop coming and no one is feeding me but myself.

This is where they pay the essential workers or allow them temporary unemployment. This is only my suggestion as others have said it also, but maybe just maybe it will help others from not getting the virus. I work @ a retail/pharmacy & have to work, but if they close the state I won’t get paid either but my life is more important & 2 weeks only.
